Monthly Empties | Health, Beauty, Hair, Makeup

This empties post is long overdue! My empties bin has been overflowing for months and I had to recycle some just so this post wasn't too long and/or redundant.

Here, I'll share what I used up or what I'm discarding for one reason or another with mini reviews, and whether I would repurchase them or not.

Links to products will be provided in the headings if I can find one.

Hair

This is the large sized bottle and it took me forever to use it up. I quite liked it but I recently tried FoxyBae's Leave-in Hair Mask (featured here) and I am preferring it to the It's a 10, at the moment.

Repurchase- I would like to try the version with keratin

I've always loved Biolage. This conditioning balm is great for dry and dehydrated hair. It definitely helps leave my dry hair feeling softer.

Repurchase- Yes

Skincare

Garnier Micellar Water for Dry/Sensitive Skin 400ml/ $15

This is a fabulous Micellar water. I use it as my AM cleanse and in the evening as my toner. It removes makeup, dirt, and oil and is gentle and doesn't dry out my skin.

Repurchase - Yes

I had really high hopes for this serum and I suppose it was okay but it didn't wow me. I did not notice any anti aging benefits like I did with the Sympli Peptide Serum listed below, now that one wowed me!!

Repurchase- Probably not but I'm not against trying it again because of the reasonable price

This is a great alternative to Prescription Retin A! I used it in place of my Retin A when I had run out and it made my skin look and feel great and it only takes a few drops. It's like a dry oil, and it is hydrating and non irritating. I found that I could use it in places where I can't apply my Retin A like the mouth and nose areas etc.

Repurchase- Yes, if I'm out of my prescription Retin A

This peptide serum blew me away! I read the reviews on iHerb when I saw it in the sale section of the website and I couldn't believe the reviews on it, so I had to try it for myself. Within 2 uses, my skin was so smoothed out and appeared much tighter aka less sagging. Read my full review on it here. There are no incentives to leave a positive review on iHerb, so I should have known but they just made it sound too good to be true. Luckily, it IS that good! You can use discount code AGU725 to get a discount on iHerb

Repurchase- I NEVER want to be without it! I have purchased 4 more so far!

I enjoyed using this moisturizer as it is nice and soothing and hydrating. I don't notice any special anti aging benefits aside from moisturization, so I probably wouldn't purchase it because of its price tag. I find that I can get other moisturizers that perform just as well for less money. eg. Cetaphil Moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid.

Repurchase- If at a great price

Unfortunately, I was only able to use this on my neck as it made me breakout when I used it on my face. I did enjoy using it on my neck overtop of my serums and moisturizers to seal them in.

Repurchase- Possible for my neck only. Trying other neck creams for now

Makeup

Marc Jacobs Shameless Ýouthful Look Longwear Foundation 32ml/ $27

I loved this "foundation." I would consider it more of a BB cream or tinted moisturizer. It was very hydrating and had light-medium coverage that was very natural, just the way I like it. I found a cheap dupe though- Elf's BB Cream performs exactly the same for me at a fraction of the price! Read more about it here

Repurchase- If I find it at a great price again at Winner's or Marshall's!

Loved this mascara! It gave me the big and long lashes that I love! It retails for about $24. I don't mind forking out that much money for a mascara for a special occasion, but for everyday use, I prefer to use something more affordable that gives me similar results like Essence Lash Princess Mascara for $5.

Jennifer's Nude has been my favourite nude lipstick since it launched years ago! It's a pink/ nude and I think it would suit a lot of people. I still love it but don't wear lipstick very often since we are still wearing masks. Instead, I opt for tinted lip balms like Burt's Bees.

This was a gift from an online buddy and it became my favourite lip gloss. The colour is just what I like, a bit of a nude/ pink, my lips but better shade. It's super hydrating and really does make my lips look much fuller! There isn't any tingle or burn or anything, but it does work to make lips look more plump!

Health

I'm not that picky about my Vitamin D3 supplements, I just happen to enjoy taking them in a gummy form as it makes them convenient to take, and they're yummy so it's easy to remember to take them. I also prefer the 1000IU so I can customize my dose and take more or less, depending on whether I'm getting a lot of sunshine or not. My blood levels of vitamin D are good, so I will continue to take it.

Repurchase- Yes

Vitamin Code is my current favourite multi vitamin. I am rotating between this version for Women 50+ and the one below geared towards Women in general. I love that these are whole food vitamins that our bodies recognize and I feel better when I take them. I feel like they regulate my body as I sleep better and feel better overall. Garden of Life has several versions including ones for men, over 40 etc. Have a look at the ingredients and see which one has what your looking for. You really cannot go wrong with this brand, IMO.  Note: I sometimes take half of the recommended dose, depending on how I'm feeling, just to make my dollar go further.

Repurchase- Absolutely!

My thoughts on this multi are the same as for the one above by the same brand, just a different version.

Repurchase- Already have!

I literally cannot live without this product! I have severe and chronic insomnia and this works wonders for me considering how bad my insomnia is. I take half of the recommended dose as that works best for me and also makes the product last twice as long. I take one tablet nightly and once my sleep starts to become more restless, I then take a break from this supplement (or any melatonin containing supplement), after a short break, I can return to it and it works great. Sometimes I take one if I wake prematurely and it usually helps me go back to sleep. I've also found it at Costco.

Repurchase- Yes!

Astragalus is an adaptogenic herb with amino acids, trace minerals, and polyphenols. It's a great tonic and immune booster. It works as an antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory, and anti aging properties. I took it for adrenal fatigue and felt it worked well for that. I have also taken it in the past when my immune system plummeted after I was struck by a streetcar, and I found that it did indeed boost my immune system as I stopped getting sick all the time. Note: I took the Now Foods brand of Astragalus and will continue to take that brand.

Repurchase- Yes, I would purchase Astragalus by Now Foods in the future

I hope you enjoyed seeing what I used up and maybe found some of the information helpful. Remember to always consult with your healthcare practitioner before beginning any new supplements.

See you next week!

Supplements + Other Tips I've implemented To Boost My Immune System During Coronavirus (COVID-19)

With the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak spreading globally, I wanted to share what I'm doing to give my immune system a much-needed boost.

Besides the basics that we should all be doing to help protect ourselves from the Coronavirus like hand washing, keeping social distances from others, limiting travel to only when necessary, and disinfecting common or frequently touched areas, we can also incorporate other measures to help keep ourselves and our loved ones protected.

There are so many vitamins, herbs, and supplements that can help boost our immune systems and we certainly can't take them all. Starting with the basics, we need to have deep, restful, and reparative sleep which can be difficult during stressful times, so we also want to look at ways to support our sleep and stress level. We should also focus on a healthy diet filled with antioxidant-rich foods, protein, healthy fats, and complex carbs.

MULTIVITAMIN

Many vitamins including B6, C, and E are all known to help boost the immune system and can be found in a healthy diet. Although I try to eat a healthy diet, it's not always possible, so I like to start with a good multivitamin to fill in any possible nutritional gaps. My current favourite multi is My Kind Multivitamin by Garden of Life. There is one for men and one for women and non-age-related ones. I actually feel a difference when I take this multi and it's chocked full of amazingly healthy and organic ingredients! I can even take them on an empty stomach as they are made with whole foods.

VITAMIN C

I've also been taking extra Vitamin C. I love this spray version and take a couple of sprays AM and PM. Vitamin C is water-soluble so we just pee out what our body doesn't use. I keep chewable ones on hand also. If you want to know how important Vitamin C is to our immune systems, you can check out this article on 20 Ways Vitamin C Strengthens the Immune System.

As always, check with your doctor for professional advice before starting a new supplement.

QUERCETIN WITH BROMELAIN
The 3rd supplement that I've incorporated as a result of this outbreak is something that I had heard of but never taken before, Quercetin. It's actually what prompted me to write this article. I had known of this supplement as one that helps with allergies, but it also has anti-inflammatory actions as well as a whole host of other benefits that I wasn't aware of until recently. It has anti-viral properties and specifically supports the respiratory system which is where the Coronavirus attacks. This one that I'm taking has Bromelain which also has a number of health benefits. Bromelain can slow blood clotting so you may want to choose a Quercetin supplement without Bromelain if that is a concern to you.

From NCBI:
In vitro and some animal models have shown that quercetin, a polyphenol derived from plants, has a wide range of biological actions including anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory and antiviral activities... Read more HERE.

I don't know if it's helping but I feel better taking it, plus it has so many other benefits! You can read more online or check out webmd

VITAMIN D
I also take some extra Vitamin D for my immune system and actually take it all winter long. Vitamin D also plays an important role in immunity and has so many other health benefits that I will most likely always take extra Vitamin D (on top of what's in my multi). I had had my Vitamin D tested this winter and it's in the normal range thanks to my intake of this supplement.

Read more about the role Vitamin D plays on the immune system at Science Daily.

Some other herbs that I like for the immune system are echinacea, astragalus, and zinc or zinc lozenges. There are many others to choose from, these are just some of the ones I like to take as prevention to illness or when I feel rundown. Again, speak to your healthcare practitioner to decide what's right for you.

Other simple things I've been doing is eating more onions and garlic, making sure I drink a lot of fluids to stay hydrated, mostly water and herbal teas that are calming or green tea is a good choice thanks to its antioxidants. I already have trouble sleeping and it's significantly worse since the Coronavirus outbreak, so I try to not watch the News before bed and I practice deep breathing or listen to meditation apps or soothing sounds on my phone before bedtime. I also like to have calming herbal teas at night to help with my sleep, just not right before bed or I'll be waking up to use the restroom.

I hope you find some of these tips helpful! I'd love to hear your tips in the comments about what you are doing to stay healthy and happy during these difficult times so we can all learn something from each other.

Hoping you and your families stay safe and healthy!

*Note: Always check with your doctor or health care provider before beginning any new supplements

iHerb Haul | Health, Supplements, Beauty

It's been a long time since I shared an iHerb haul. I shop there pretty much every month and have since I've had a computer... aka, a very long time. They have the best prices even with the Canadian exchange rate, shipping and prepaid taxes!

Today, I wanted to share my purchases as I ordered quite a few items this time.

Nature's Answer Rhodiola
This is the best Rhodiola that I've tried so I keep going back to it. It's a great adaptogen that helps my body deal with stress. This one is 100mg, which I find is the right dose for me. Purchase HERE.

CocoCeps Dark Chocolate Cocoa Beverage
I've been drinking this in my morning protein smoothies for as long as I can remember. It contains certified organic unsweetened dark cocoa plus Cordyceps and Reishi Powders. Excellent for immunity, heart health, energy and provides antioxidants. Purchase HERE.

Now Foods Glycine Pure Powder 1lb
I purchased this for sleep as it's reported to promote restful sleep. I'm not sure that it's doing anything for my sleep, as I still have sleep issues, but what I did notice while taking this is that it helps with daytime stress. I need to take a whole teaspoon in my water bottle to notice a difference. I believe the recommended dose is 1/4 tsp. I ran this by my Doctor and he told me it's okay for me to be taking 1 tsp as it's water soluble, meaning you'll just pee out what you don't use. :) Purchase HERE.

Brain Awakening Magnesium Supplement
I actually didn't order this, it just showed up in my order. It's funny because in all the years that I've been shopping with iHerb this has never happened before. I contacted them and they told me to keep it. I've been taking it but I really haven't noticed anything yet. I cannot find this on their site.

Now Foods Vitamin D 1000IU
This is my first time ordering Now Foods Vitamin D. Vitamin D is such an important vitamin as so many of us are deficient, especially in this part of the world where we don't get enough sunshine for much of the year. This has a dropper, offers 1000mg per drop, and is very affordable. D is fat-soluble, so I always take it with my fish oil capsule and preferably some food or drink with fat in it. Purchase HERE.

HyaFlex Hyaluronic Acid For Joints
I've been purchasing this for my cat for a while. I noticed a difference after the first time he took it, he went charging around the house about 2 hours after taking it. It's expensive, so I give him half of the recommended dose. There is also one for Dogs.

Now Foods 5-HTP 50mg
I keep this on rotation for my insomnia issues. I prefer the 50mg so I have the option of taking 50mg or more vs. the 100mg caps. 5-HTP often helps put me into zzz land. As a side benefit, it helps to improve my mood as well. I guess I should really take it more often :D Purchase HERE.

Jarrow Milk Thistle
Milk thistle is great for our liver. I actually purchased this because I read that it's good for balancing hormones on top of the fact that it would help my liver, so win-win. This is a great brand and it's very affordable. Purchase HERE.

Wet Brush Mini
I have a large wet./dry brush and I like it so much that I wanted the mini for my purse. This one was only a few dollars and works just as well as the full size. Can be Purchased HERE.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my iHerb haul!

If you haven't shopped with iHerb before, I can highly recommend them. They have amazing prices, super fast shipping, and excellent customer service!

My tips for shopping iHerb: I try to spend the amount that will get me free shipping if they are offering it, otherwise, I go for the cheapest shipping method with taxes prepaid. I use a discount code each time like the one shared below. I pay in my own currency as my credit card conversion will be more than iHerb's conversion. I always choose to prepay the taxes, you'll save the customs fees and it makes shipping much faster, too!

*You can save $$$ on your orders with iHerb by entering discount code AGU725 into your cart or just click this link to save! This code can be used by anyone and can be used every time you shop!

Remember to always check with your health care practitioner before beginning any new supplements.

Monthly Empties | Health, Beauty, Skincare Favourites and Fails!

Happy Friday, everyone! 💗

I'm way overdue for an empties post. I can't believe my last one was in January (linked here).

I had so many empties since then that I just had to toss some in the recycling as my empties box was severely overflowing.

I'll keep my reviews for each product as brief as possible and provide links to products whenever possible.

Skincare & Beauty

L'Oreal Wrinkle Expert 45+ Day/ Night Moisturizer (gifted)
I LOVED this moisturizer! I have never looked to L'Oreal for my skincare before, just their makeup but this moisturizer was as good as high-end products in my opinion. It was really hydrating and made my skin feel great, and it's SO affordable! Now I want to try the one for 55+ even though I'm not over 55 yet, but the more antiaging the better as far as I'm concerned. Seems that drugstore skincare has really stepped up their game! I was also blown away by Cetaphil's new moisturizer! L'Oreal Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- Yes

Paula's Choice Resist Moisture Renewal Oil Booster
I love using oils to seal in my serums and moisturizers. This oil booster has a blend of oils plus ceramides and argan oil. I do like this oil but I feel like any oil gives me the same effect, whether it be argan, almond oil, or avocado oil which are a few of my favourites, and they can be purchased in large quantities at low prices. I usually get mine on iHerb as they are usually even cheaper there. Paula's Choice is linked HERE.

Repurchase- Possibly

Organic Nation More Than Rose Hydration Mist (gifted)
This is a gorgeous rose toner that's just about as organic as you can get. It's packed with amazing, skin-loving ingredients. I found it very soothing and hydrating and the scent was gorgeous! I love using it to set my makeup and to layer my skincare for better absorption. If it was more accessible and priced lower, I would definitely purchase it. Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- No

Eco Tools Mask Remover Sponges
I adore these sponges. I don't just use them to remove my face masks, I also use them when I cleanse my face and remove my makeup. They are so gentle on my skin but help to remove all traces of dirt and makeup, plus, I get a bit of exfoliation with them. They are made of the same materials used in high-end spas! They are so cheap on iHerb and I'm always stocking up! I replace mine every few months. Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- YES!

Simon & Tom BB Cream All-in-one Beautifying Balm SPF 15 (Light)
I loved this BB cream! I needed the tiniest amount and it evened out my skin tone and it looked like my skin but better! The only issue for me was that it's too dark for me and this was the shade light :( It lasted forever, too! Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- Even though the light is too dark for me, I still may repurchase as I was able to make it work by applying very little. I loved the effect on my skin!

Maybelline Brow Precise Fiber Volumizer
Tinted brow fibres are my preferred way to groom my brows. Unfortunately, I could not make this product work for me. The brush is just too large for me. I always ended up with too much product and it would end up all other my eye area and I'd have to clean it up. I went back to my favourite one by Essence. The Maybelline one has great reviews, so perhaps it's user error. Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- No

Sally Hansen Salon Manicure in I Lilac You
I am decluttering this polish. It looks more like a baby blue on me. Every time I put it on, I immediately want to take it off. So it has to go! I think it would suit someone with a darker skin tone.

Repurchase- Not this shade

Cocoa Locks Chocolate Hair Shake (gifted)
I adore this product! I had amazing results with it. I was losing heaps of hair and once I started the Cocoa Locks, the shedding stopped. I have before and after pics and a full review here. This stuff is the real deal. I was grateful to receive it in PR but unfortunately, it's not in my current budget.  Note: there is also a Hot Chocolate version. Both are good! Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- When it's in my budget, yes!!!!

Health & Wellness

GNC SuperFoods Ultra Mega-Green Women's Whole Food Advanced Multivitamin
This was my first time purchasing this multivitamin. It was on sale, so I decided to give it a shot. I also read that GNC had met many standards through 3rd party testing. I have to say, I was impressed. I felt good while taking these and noticed improvements with regularity right away. Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- Yes

Paradise Herbs Orac-Energy Greens
This product won Best of Supplements. It has alkalizing greens plus freeze-dried berries and veggies, superfood concentrates, herbal adaptogens, probiotics and more! It's great in smoothies, I just kept forgetting to take it. I do love the blend of ingredients in this product and the fact that it's an award-winner. Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- Yes

Now Food Glycine Powder
If you follow my blog, you've heard me talk about this product before. I purchased it for its claims to help with sleep. Although I did not notice an improvement with my sleep, it did make a significant difference with my daytime stress levels. I still have stress but not as much. I have to take a full teaspoon of this in my bottle of water. I won't be without this product! Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- Heck Yah!

Bach Flowers Rescue Night Spray
Although this product is certainly not a cure-all for my severe insomnia, it does seem to help somewhat so I always keep it on hand. Bach flowers have a very gentle and subtle action on the system. Would probably do wonders for those with less severe sleep issues. I even take a few sprays when I wake up and it often helps me go back to sleep. It's all natural and doesn't have any contraindications with medications. Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- Yes

Mercola Sleep Support With Melatonin
This has to be my best discovery for help with sleep in a LONG time! I can only imagine how it would help someone with less severe insomnia that what I have. The first night that I took it, I passed out almost immediately. My body gets used to things, so I no longer pass out immediately, but it does help. I did find that my magic dose is 2 sprays per night and the same if I wake in the middle of the night. The recommended dose is 6 sprays but you can customize it to your needs very easily. I use it every night in addition to other sleep aids. I always buy it in bulk! Can purchase HERE.

Repurchase- Oh ya!

Hyalogic HyaFlex for Cats, Oral Hyaluronic Acid, Joint Care
This product is pricey but worth it. Within 2 hours after my cats first dose, he was charging around the house like a kitten. I give him half of the recommended dose to make it last longer. If I need to, I will up the dose but he seems fine with half the dose. There is also a formula for dogs (linked here). I cannot recommend this enough if you have an ageing pet or one who has joint issues. Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- Yes

Now Foods Better Stevia French VanillaI have this stevia in about 5 flavours. They are not bitter at all and a bottle lasts for years! I use them in everything you can think of from baking to smoothies, coffee, tea and more. It's super affordable and great tasting. Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- Yes

I hope you enjoyed seeing what I finished up recently, what I loved and what didn't work for me.

Monthly Empties | Health, Beauty, Makeup, Skincare!

Happy November, everyone! I don't know about you but I'm actually glad that November is here. No idea why, maybe new month, new start!? Anyhooo, it's time for another empties post. Sorry for the lighting in the photos, it's been raining all week and the lighting was terrible, to top it off my bottle of Glycine wouldn't cooperate and pose properly for the photos! 😂

As always, I will share links to products in the titles and mini reviews.

Health

PhiNaturals Collagen Complete
I liked this collagen powder as it didn't have any taste, mixed well in my smoothies and it's also non-GMO and grass-fed. However, I have switched to Great Lakes Collagen Hydrolysate as it is pasture raised and grass fed which is a better choice. I also feed the collagen to my cat for all the same reasons I take it. There are too many benefits to get into here but one Google search will fill you in if you're not familiar with some of the benefits. A few benefits are joint health, gut health, restores bone density, helps with tissue repair and is reported to be good for hair, skin and nails, too!

Repurchase- No (will purchase Great Lakes Collagen)

Now Glycine Pure Protein Powder
I've talked about Glycine a lot on my site recently. Although I purchased this for the reported sleep benefits, I actually found that it helped with daytime stress rather than my sleep. I take 1 heaping tsp in a bottle of water and sip it throughout the day.

From iHerb:
Glycine is the smallest and simplest amino acid, making it versatile for use in a wide range of functions. Glycine is necessary for the production of glutathione, DNA, creatine, bile, hemoglobin, and most proteins. It also helps to promote glycogen storage, thereby making glucose readily available for energy production. Glycine also functions as a calming neurotransmitter in the brain, where it facilitates nerve impulses and is important for the maintenance of healthy sleep patterns.

Repurchase- Already have!

Nature's Bounty Hair, Skin and Nails Gummies
I like to take these for my hair and skin health. I really only notice my nails growing like crazy when I take these, so I know they're doing something! These contain biotin, vitamin c + E. For some reason, biotin on its own makes me breakout but these do not.

Repurchase- Yes

Jarrow Max DHA
These have been my favourite fish oil caps for a long time. I try others but always come back to this one. The gel caps are small and I don't get fishy burps. Plus, I get a higher dose of DHA which is the predominant fatty acid in the brain, nervous system and retina of humans and also supports neurological function.

Repurchase- Already have

Schuessler Tissue Salts- Nerve Tonic
It's been years since I took tissue salts. I was introduced to them when I developed my severe insomnia and discovered homoeopathy while looking for help with my sleep issues. I saw these in the store and decided to give them another try since it has been so long (since about 2002). I didn't really notice anything though. Tissue salts come in single remedy form or compositions such as this one.

About Tissue Salts:
Tissue Salts are specially prepared micro-doses of the body’s 12 essential minerals. These minerals are important for the functioning and health of the body; if deficiency or imbalance occurs, common ailments or illness may result. With today’s reliance on highly processed foods, keeping a healthy balance of minerals in the body is often difficult.

Repurchase- At some point. Perhaps the next one will be a single remedy tissue salt

Bach Rescue Remedy Night
Bach flowers are another form of homoeopathy. I had taken the very popular Rescue Remedy drops before the night version was available and unfortunately, it didn't do anything for me. However, I do find the Rescue Night formula helps my sleep somewhat. I take it before bed and if I wake too early it often helps me fall back asleep. The other great thing about homoeopathic remedies is that there are no contraindications with medications. Note: I find the actions are very subtle. I don't feel sleepy after I take this but it does help with my sleep somewhat.

Repurchase- Already have

Beauty

Prescription Retin-A 0.04% (RX only)
I've been using this Retin-A for years. It's Retin-A Mirco 0.04%. It has never been harsh nor irritated my skin, I didn't even need an adjustment period when I started it. The only time I needed an adjustment period was when I started using it on my neck, and even then it was minimal. If you've had a hard time adjusting to typical Retin-A, ask your Doctor about this one.

Repurchase- Yes

The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask
This was a great mask for pulling impurities out of my skin and getting a little exfoliation in as well. My skin really did glow when I used this. Whenever I use a mask like this one, I like to follow it up with something very hydrating- either a hydrating mask or Essence followed by my serum, moisturizer, and sometimes oils. This product is Vegan.

Repurchase- Possibly, I have so many other to use up first and I'd like to try some of the other ones from this line.

Elf Perfect Finish HD Face Powder
I purchased this with one of my iHerb orders. It was a steal and lasted for a long time. It definitely blurred my pores and killed the shine on my face, I'm pretty oily. It is a white powder though, so a light dusting is all you need, probably why it lasted so long! This product is cruelty-free!

Repurchase- I would but I have SO many others to use up first

Living Proof Restore Perfecting Spray (Sample)
I loved this product and it was my first experience with Living Proof products. I get the feeling that this brand will work really well for my hair type, so I am eager to try more from them. I have naturally super frizzy hair, plus it's damaged hair from bleach and this spray did a great job at smoothing my frizz without weighing my hair down. I was impressed!

Repurchase- Yes

Anbber Beauty Sponge 6 pc
I ordered these makeup sponges from Amazon on a whim many months ago. I was blown away by the quality! These are my HG sponges! They are super soft, they don't absorb your product, they blend makeup really well (I use them damp), there's no funky smell, and none of mine have developed mold like some name brands sponges that I've used. I use each sponge for 3 months and then throw them out, even though they still look fine and have no tears or mold.

Repurchase- Yes

Sonia Kashuk Lipstick in Sheer Pink Lust
My HG lipstick of all times! This had such an anti-aging effect on my lips and the colour was so perfect! But, sadly Sonia Kashuk is no longer selling makeup. :(

Repurchase- No. Discontinued

Ecotools Mask Mates / Cleansing Sponge
I cannot rave enough about this sponge and the brush the came with it! At first, I thought these were just some gimmick to get us to purchase more unnecessary items to add to our beauty routines. These are NO gimmick at all. The brush (included in the kit but not shown) is wonderful and actually makes masking less messy and just easier and more enjoyable. The sponge is made from the same materials (natural pulp) that they use in high-end spas! It makes mask removal easier and less messy, plus you can use them daily with your cleanser. They really help to remove every trace of makeup while gently exfoliating the skin. I adore these!

Repurchase- Yes!

Misc.

Kirkland Face Wipes
I love to stock up on these. You get a huge box and it even contains a few packs of wipes for travel. The wipes are huge, nicely saturated and very gentle on my skin. I use one every night to remove my makeup before cleansing.

Repurchase- Yes

Himalayan Botanique Complete Care Toothpaste
I really enjoyed this toothpaste and loved the cinnamon taste. It checks off all the boxes that I look for in a natural toothpaste, it's free of SLS, fluoride, carrageenan, and gluten. However, after one tube of it, I can't say that I'm converted from my favourite Now Foods Xyliwhite cinnamon toothpaste. Although I love my Xyliwhite, I always love trying out other natural toothpaste.

Repurchase- I've already gone back to my Now Foods Xyliwhite

Sleep

Homeocan Insomnia Homeopathic Remedy
This product didn't fit into my photo of health products, and I figured that it deserves a spotlight all on its own. I've used a ton of homoeopathic remedies over the years. Some single remedies, some compositions and I've had some success with many of them. I think my body got used to many of them and they no longer worked for me. I came across this one by Homeocan which I had never tried before, so I figured I had nothing to lose. It really helped with my sleep issues and I've sadly run out and need to get some more asap!

Repurchase- ASAP!

I hope you enjoyed seeing this month's empties and hopefully, you found some of the information helpful.

iHerb Haul | Health, Beauty, Supplements (Hormones, Stress, Sleep)

I have a little iHerb haul to share today. Most of these items are repurchases for me. I'll share links to products in the headings and a little about them and/or why I take them or how they help me. I Hope you'll find the info helpful.

Supplements:
Brain, Heart, Hormone, Stress, Skin and Hair Health

Jarrow Max DHA 600 mg
I've been taking this fish oil for years. I've tried others but I always go back to this one. It has 600 mg of DHA per serving! I take it for many reasons from heart, brain, and skin and nail health. I've never had fishy burps from this product. I only take one per day just to make it even more affordable and also because I take so many other supplements. This product is dairy-free and gluten-free.

From iHerb:
DHA is the predominant fatty acid in the brain, nervous system and retina of humans. DHA is important for fetal and infantile neurological development. DHA also supports neurological function in seniors.

I stopped taking evening primrose oil for a while and decided I needed to start taking it again. It's supposed to help with hormone balance and also increase progesterone. Since I cannot tolerate even bio-identical progesterone, I look to supplements like this as well as vitex (which I am not currently taking but will probably go back to). As a bonus, evening primrose oil is also fabulous for skin and hair health! I like this dosage as it was recommended in a book I read a long time ago (I can't remember which book it was). I remember reading that our bodies will only be able to process 500 mg's at a time, so it's best to take 500 mg 2 x a day. I tend to only take one a day because I take many other supplements. This product is soy-free, gluten-free, and dairy-free.

From iHerb:
NOW Evening Primrose Oil has naturally occurring Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA), an Omega-6 fatty acid also found in Borage and Black Currant seed oils. Although the body can synthesize GLA from other dietary fats, it can be more efficiently utilized for bodily functions when consumed in its preformed state. By supporting the body's healthy immune system responses, GLA may help to maintain normal skin barrier function, as well as a healthy vascular system. It may also be used as a nutritional support for mild discomfort associated with PMS.

I purchased this product years ago based on its claims to help with sleep. I didn't notice anything so I didn't bother to keep taking it regularly. Fast forward to recently, and I decided to give it a try again, as our bodies changed and I thought maybe it would help me this time. I haven't noticed a marked difference in my sleep but what I did notice after taking it daily for a while was that I felt more relaxed and less stressed during the daytime. I take 1 tsp in a bottle of water and sip on it throughout the day. The results are very subtle and happen over time, at least for me. It's not like I drink it and then feel relaxed after like a herbal tea might. Its actions are subtle but effective. I will continue to take this. My Dr. informed me that what my body doesn't use will be eliminated in my urine, so I feel safe taking the larger doses. This product is also gluten-free, soy-free, and free of milk.

Beauty

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge with Travel Case 2 pc
I have purchased many Real Techniques products from iHerb as it's usually much cheaper than buying it at my local store. I was so happy to see that they carried this new product that contains their Miracle Complexion Sponge with their new travel case! Such a neat idea, even for use at home to keep my sponge protected from germs and dirt. The travel case is vented so the sponge can get some air and dry out properly.

Cococare Cocoa Butter Cream 1 oz
I added this product to get my order to approx $50 dollars so I could get free shipping! It's a nice size for my purse and will surely help out my dry, dehydrated hands during the cold months to come.

I always check my cart on iHerb and make sure that I'm getting the most bang for my buck. For example, if you're shopping on iHerb, keep checking the cost of shipping as you add and remove products, you'll see that the price will fluctuate and I can usually get free shipping on my orders. Being in Canada, I usually opt to prepay duties and taxes as it eliminates the "handling fee" that Customs will impose if they decide to charge you for taxes etc. Also, check for samples and trial sizes if you need to get to that free shipping threshold.

I hope you enjoyed seeing what I purchased this month and found some of the info helpful.

If you plan on shopping with iHerb, you can save 5% OFF your entire order with discount code AGU725 or just use this link. This code can be used by anyone, unlimited times and it doesn't expire so you can share it with your friends and family as well. The discount code is good for new and existing customers. (This is a referral link).

iHerb's shipping is super cheap and super fast!

Remember to always check with your Doctor or healthcare practitioner before adding any supplements to your routine.

Huge Empties | Health, Beauty, Makeup, Skincare + Declutter

It's time to clear out the empties that I've accumulated. My last empties post was in August (linked here), so this is 2 months worth of empties.

As always, I will link to products whenever possible in the product headings or link to a similar product if the product is no longer available. I'll also share a brief review as well as whether or not I would repurchase.

Health

This supplement contains a variety of immune-boosting mushroom extracts. I love using mushrooms in my supplements to boost my immune system and for overall health support.

Repurchase- Yes

I take Evening Primrose Oil to help balance my hormones. It's also supposed to help build progesterone in the body, which is something my body needs and unfortunately, I cannot tolerate even bio-identical topical progesterone, so I look to supplements like evening primrose oil as well as Vitex etc. As a side benefit, EPO is also great for skin and hair!

Repurchase- Yes

Many women take prenatal supplements to boost skin and hair health. I happened to win this product in a giveaway and was happy to try it out since I take a multivitamin daily anyways. Although I do like this brand, I did not notice any special with these supplements.

Repurchase- No

Glycine is the smallest and simplest amino acid, making it versatile for a wide range of functions. It's necessary for the production on glutathione, DNA, creatine, bile, haemoglobin and most proteins, Glycine also works as a calming neurotransmitter in the brain, where it facilitates nerve impulses and is important for the maintenance of healthy sleep patterns.

I purchased this for the reported sleep benefits. I had tried it years ago but didn't notice anything. I decided to try it again as things can change with our bodies. This time, I took a teaspoon daily in some water and although I didn't notice anything right away, it had a subtle action over time and I began to notice that I was feeling much calmer during the daytime. The jury is still out on how much it has helped my sleep but I will continue to use it and see what time of day might work best for my insomnia issues.

Repurchase- Already have (different brand but I'm going back to this one)

If you've seen my empties posts in the past, you've most likely seen this product before. I use it daily in my morning smoothie. It tastes great and contains immune boosting cordyceps and reishi mushroom powders ( you cannot taste the mushrooms). I have an aversion to mushrooms, so this is one of the few ways that I can get the health benefits of mushrooms.

Skincare

I received these in a beauty box from TopBox. They are very gentle and do a great job at removing makeup and I found them very soothing to my skin. However, when it comes to cleansing, I do like to purchase less expensive products and save my money for the serums, skin treatments, and moisturizers. If you like to splurge a little on this type of product, I do recommend them.

Repurchase- If I see them on sale

I have tried a few products from Robin McGraw's Revelation line and had fantastic results! If I wasn't always testing out new skincare, I would stick to mostly her products along with a few others peppered in here and there. This is a great night cream and very hydrating without being greasy (full review here). From the products I've tried from her line, I found that I had the most anti-aging results from her brightening line. Not only did I notice a difference but I had compliments galore! That always speaks volumes about how a product is working. Review of her Brightening line linked here.

Repurchase- Yes

I received this product for testing purposes and really enjoyed it. I always have good luck with Vichy products and they never irritate my skin. I'd say I prefer Vichy's Rosy Cream over this one. The Rosy Cream seemed to make my skin feel denser.

Repurchase- Perhaps as I get older I might try it again and see if it benefits me more

I don't really have dark circles so I cannot attest to whether or not it helps with that. I do have quite the puffy bags under my eyes though and this did not help with that at all. Obviously not the right product for my concerns.

Repurchase- No

Haircare

This is definitely my current favourite hair mask. I find it really hydrating for my parched hair and it definitely improves the look of my damaged, dry, and bleached hair. I do test out a lot of hair products so I don't use it as much as I'd like to.

Repurchase- Bought a bunch of backups already!

I'm a big fan of these products! They claim to combat hair loss and repair hair shaft. This brand is Canadian and their products are all natural and void of harsh chemicals, and naturally preserved. I love both of these products! They both contain many of the amazing ingredients that are purported to help with hair loss and maintain a healthy scalp and hair.

Lavender Shampoo:
"Contains Lavender essential oil to promote new hair growth and prevent hair loss by increasing blood circulation to the scalp. For thinning, color treated, chemically treated and heat damaged hair."

Lavender Conditioner:
"Seabuckthorn & Lavender come together to create the perfect deep penetrating and revitalizing conditioner. Omega rich seabuckthorn oils help to increase shine, repair & prevent damage and breakage, and seal the hair shaft to prevent moisture loss. Lavender oil has been used for centuries to combat hair loss, stimulate new growth, and heal a myriad of scalp problems. These oils work synergistically to detangle, protect, and nourish your hair and scalp while making your tresses bright, shiny, and strong. This therapeutic conditioner is suited for all hair types and any scalp condition."

A few of the fabulous ingredients are; Hemp seed oil, coconut oil, seabuckthorn oil, lavender oil, aloe, chamomile, panthenol, and hydrolyzed wheat protein.

Pets/ Misc

My whole family takes Q10, including my cat. Q10 is especially important as we age and is just important for our pets as it is for us. I give my cat 1-2 drops in his food and he laps it up. This bottle lasts about 6 months so it's very affordable. Feeding guidelines are based on your pet's weight so the bottle won't last quite as long for a larger animal. But, you can't put a price on health!

Repurchase- Will never be without this!

I've been using this toothpaste for years!! I had better dental checkups after I began using it so I continued with it. Plus, it's free of fluoride, SLS, gluten, and parabens. I have tried some other natural brands but at this point, this is still my favourite. There are also mint flavours but I adore this cinnamon.

Makeup & Declutter

Sonia Kashuk Longwear Gel Eyeliner
I am tossing this as it's super old. It worked really well and didn't budge at all. Sadly, Sonia Kashuk is no longer selling cosmetics.

Maybelline Great Lash Clear Mascara/ Brow Gel
I love this product. It really holds my brows in place and has a great spoolie. It's quick and easy, great for a no-fuss but groomed look to your brows.

Repurchase- Yes

Doucce Maxlash Volumizer Mascara
This mascara has a crazy wand with very long bristles. It was intimidating to use at first because I was always afraid of poking myself in the eye and in fact, I did a couple of times. Once I became accustomed to it, I loved it. It gave me great looking, full lashes.

Repurchase- Probably not. Only because I prefer to buy mascaras that are not only cheaper but easily accessible at the drugstore

Loreal Magic Smooth Souffle Blush in Cherubic
This is a great cream blush option as it seems to fill in pores as if it has a built-in primer. It's called "magic smooth" so it probably does. This colour is gorgeous for light-medium skin tones and gives the most beautiful flush to the cheeks. I am tossing this as it's super old and I rarely use cream blush. Since I have very oily skin, I have to powder over any cream products so they aren't the best choice for me at the moment.

Repurchase- Possibly. If I was in the market for a cream blush, this is the one I would pick up.

City Color Collection Highlighting Cream
Although this product is fairly new to my collection, I am giving it away because I rarely reach for it and when I do I have a hard time getting it to blend evenly. Again, I have to powder on top of any cream products due to my oily skin, so it kind of takes away from what's underneath my face powder. I do like the finish of it though as it doesn't contain glitter, just a beautiful shimmer. Hopefully, someone else will use it more than I did.

Repurchase- No

Speaking of decluttering, it's something I love to try and keep on top of so I'm not swimming in things or ending up on the show called Hoarders! I tend to keep on top of clothing but never thought of my undergarments!  When was the last time you decluttered your bras and undies?! Well, I finally did, and I was astonished that I had at least 17 pairs of undies stuck in the back of my drawer that needed to go (No photo for obvious reasons). I had about the same amount of old bras that were all ill-fitting at this point! Yikes!

 #brasonly #thisisreallife #reallife

This is part of the aftermath with my bra declutter. My little helper is taking a break! lol

I figured I'd throw this part in there in case you like decluttering as well but never thought to tackle your undergarments.

Thanks for stopping by to see what I used up and what I'm decluttering.

Happy weekend, everyone! 💗
