Nars Afterglow Lip Balm in Orgasm - Affordable Dupe!

Hi Everyone,

I'm coming at you today with an awesome and super affordable dupe for the uber pricey but super gorgeous, Nars Afterglow Lip balm in Orgasm!

I had been looking for a dupe for the Nars lip balm for some time when I first received it and didn't have any success, so I gave up on it for a while. The other day I was at the Dollar Tree and treated myself to a lipgloss after a hard day. The gloss I chose was by a new brand called Beauty Benefits, I had heard of this new brand but hadn't tried anything by them yet. It says Markwins Beauty on the packaging, so it's the same brand that makes Wet N Wild makeup. The gloss is called "So Lit Lip Gloss Shine in Champagne Ice." It appears to be a beautiful pinky/peach sheer gloss in the tube and looks like it would have a brightening effect, so for $1.25, I couldn't pass it up.

As soon as I applied the So Lit Lip Gloss, I knew it looked familiar. Then it hit me! It looks just like my Nars Afterglow Lip Balm in Orgasm. So, I pulled out my Nars balm and started swatching. Although they don't look the exact same in a swatch, I applied the Nars to one lip and the Beauty Benefits to my other, and sure enough, they looked exactly the same on my lips!

Keep scrolling for lip and hand swatches..... (multiple pics in different lighting)

Left: Nars Afterglow Orgasm/ Right: Beauty Benefits Champagne Ice

Left: Nars Afterglow Orgasm / Right: Beauty Benefits

Top Lip: Nars Afterglow Orgasm / Bottom lip: Beauty Benefits

Top Lip: Nars Afterglow Orgasm / Bottom Lip: Beauty Benefits

As you can see in the swatches on my hand, they don't look exactly the same. They actually look more alike in the packaging. However, you can see by the lip swatches, that they look pretty much identical when applied to my lips. Note: I made sure to NOT rub my lips together after application.

Both products offer a sheer wash of colour that appears to be a light peachy/pink. Both products offer a glossy finish that is moisturizing and both provide a brightening effect. They both have the same lasting power and when worn off, they both leave the same slight tint of colour on the lips.

I can't believe the similarities on the lips (this could vary on your lip tone). Not to mention the savings!!

Nars Afterglow Lip Balm in Orgasm, 3 Grams retails for $37 CAD + taxes
Beauty Benefits gloss in Champagne Ice, 2.3 ML Retails for $1.25 CAD + taxes (can't find a link to the product, but they are sold at Dollar Tree stores in the USA and Canada).

I can assure you, I will be stocking up on the Beauty Benefits gloss when I find some more as I do love the Nars Lip Balm but why pay $37 + when I get the exact same look, moisturizing benefits, colour, and lasting power for $1.25!? Bonus! Beauty Benefits is #crueltyfree 🐰

I hope you found this helpful! I love a good affordable dupe!

Let me know what you think of this dupe in the comments. Are you going to pick one of these up?

Paid for with my own dollar dollar bills y'all :D

Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer in Bronzer #Review

I finally "hit pan" on my Physician's Formula Butter Bronzer in the shade Bronzer. This bronzer definitely took time to grow on me. The formula is fabulous, it's soft and buttery just as the name implies. The shade can look a little muddy on me though because I find the Bronzer shade to be more of a contour shade, so I use a light hand. I like to bronze all over for a sunkissed look, because of this, I actually prefer bronzers with a bit of a red undertone to mimic a fake tan. I find the darker shade from this line "Dark Bronzer" (which is waiting patiently in the wings for me to use it) has more of a red undertone, so I prefer that one for an all over bronzed up look . These bronzers do have a sweet tropical scent which fades once applied. I'm really not offended nor sold by the scent. I actually prefer unscented beauty products but it wouldn't stop me from purchasing this product.

My all-time favourite bronzer is still Laura Geller's Bronze n' Brighten and it's been my favourite for at least 10 years! But since I like to try new products, I had purchased the Butter Bronzers to give them a go. You never know if you'll find a new favourite, eh? Until I use this up, I will alternate my PF Butter Bronzers and my Laura Geller one, which I use in medium, btw.

Overall, the formula is fantastic and now there are 4 shades to choose from Light, BronzerDeep,  and Sunkissed, so there is something for everyone. Physician's Formula is a Cruelty-free brand. Plus, they are accessible and affordable if you wait for a sale. Right now all shades are half price at $7.69 on Amazon.com.

Shop Physicians Formula Butter Bronzers HERE.

What's your favourite bronzer?

Hope everyone has a great week ahead.

Philosophy Renewed Hope in A Jar Peeling Mousse, Refreshing and Refining Moisturizer + Time in A Bottle Serum Review

I had the pleasure of testing out Philosophy's Renewed Hope in A Jar Peeling Mousse, Refreshing and Refining Moisturizer, as well as their Time in A bottle Resist, Renew and Repair Serum thanks to Topbox Circle

*All links provided in this post contain pricing and product information

Although each sample was only 7ml's they did last me for a week, using AM + PM. Granted, this isn't nearly enough time to gauge any long term effects but it was enough time to notice some results.

Firstly, I love that these products are unscented. Although, I'm not against products with fragrance, I definitely prefer products that do not have any fragrance.  I have aging, combo, dehydrated and reactive skin. I was actually having a breakout all over my face from some other products that I had just started using when I received these samples. I started the Philosophy samples right away and found them very soothing on my skin. When I woke the next morning, my breakouts were going away already! I was already a fan based on that alone.

The Peeling Mousse is similar to some other products that I've used in the past where it's supposed to exfoliate your face as you massage the product into your skin, and your dead skin cells bead up and roll into little balls. I have never been sure if this is actually skin or the product that's beading up. However, I can say that my skin looked clearer, fresher, softer, and brighter after using this exfoliator.

The Renew and Repair Serum, also unscented, absorbs nicely and doesn't leave my skin with any sticky residue or greasy feel. It's perfect under the Refreshing and Refining Moisturizer and also underneath makeup. It adds a bit of hydration and is very gentle on my reactive skin. I would love to see the long term benefits, if any, of this product as it has some great anti-aging ingredients.

From Ulta's site:

An exclusive liposome complex stimulates skin's natural repair functions to help repair skin damage at its source. Next, potent vitamin C8 and a patented antioxidant complex neutralize damaging free radicals to help renew skin's protection from daily aggressors; and third, extracts from rare Himalayan red rice, red grape ferment and plantain leaf help reactivate skin's natural age-resisting mechanisms, for results you can see and feel.

The Refreshing and Refining Moisturizer was also a delight to use. Fragrance-free, extremely soothing to my dehydrated skin, and really does provide long-lasting hydration. Again, no sticky or oily residue with this product either. My skin was left so soft that I couldn't stop touching it for a while there. hehe. I know, that's a no-no. The other noticeable difference was the rough, bumpy texture, especially on my forehead was gone and smoothed out after using these products for a week!

In Summary:

My favourite products are the serum and moisturizer. With the moisturizer, I had immediate benefits and it gave me long-lasting hydration. The serum has such great ingredients that I would have like to continue using it in conjunction with the moisturizer to see if I would experience any anti-aging benefits. I could take or leave the peel. Although, my skin did look fresher and brighter after using it, I can get that from most exfoliators. However, I do prefer a chemical exfoliator over a physical one, and the peeling mousse is a chemical exfoliator. Overall, I find that these products do what they claim. They offer fabulous hydration without being heavy or greasy and would be suitable for all skin types including sensitive and reactive skin like mine, and the prices are reasonable.

Have you tried these products? What is your favourite?

Thank you to Topbox Circle and Philosphy for sending over these products for me to test out.💗

Hello + New Blog Schedule!

Hi Everyone!
.
I know it's been a while since my last post, almost 2 months now. I had no intention to just stop posting suddenly, but personal issues and serious family medical issues have taken over my life for the last couple of months, leaving no time for other things that I love. I have definitely missed posting here and have thought about it often but family and health matters will always be my priority. I'm sure many of know how draining and all-consuming it can be when you're dealing with serious medical issues in your family and such.

Regarding my schedule here at HGB, I hope to be able to come back and start posting again. I'd like to aim for one post a week, most likely every Sunday. Even if I just have a quick post to share, I'd like to try and keep this schedule up for the next little while until hopefully things settle down 🙏

I hope things are good on your end and I hope to see you here on Sundays! 🤗

Summer Suncare Essentials With Live Clean Cruelty-Free Sunscreens

Summer is finally here, officially tomorrow! 🌞 Which means many of us will be getting outside a whole lot more and getting a lot more exposure to the damaging rays of the sun. So it's time to step up our suncare game and protect ourselves and our families from damaging UVA and UVB rays which pose a risk for sun damage, aging skin, and skin cancer.

Although it's a good thing to wear sunscreen all year round, it's important to take extra precautions during the Summer.

When looking for a good sunscreen, look for ones that offer both UVA and UVB protection. Mineral sunscreens are my favourite way to go as they are natural and they physically block UV rays. On the other hand, chemical sunscreens filter the rays and may pose potential health problems. Live Clean's Sunscreens are mineral based, are completely void of any chemical sunscreens, and offer both UVA and UVB protection, they're hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, and do not contain nanoparticles.

Live Clean has been my go-to for years when it comes to affordable, accessible, natural mineral sunscreens that work! Live Clean is an eco-friendly beauty brand that uses natural and plant-based ingredients.

Live Clean Sport Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 45:

This is a great choice when you're going in the water or playing sports as it's water and sweat resistant for up to 80 minutes. It has a thick consistency and doesn't leave a white cast like many mineral sunscreens can. It's naturally derived, doesn't contain chemical sunscreens, and is non-nano. It offers broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection.

Medicinal ingredients: Zinc Oxide 9.0%, Titanium Dioxide 7.0%

Live Clean Face Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 45:

This is my favourite SPF to use on my face because it is non-comedogenic and therefore, I don't breakout! Many sunscreens will make me breakout if used on my face but this one does not. It also does not leave a white cast like many mineral sunscreens can. Again, no chemical sunscreens in this on and non-nano as well. This one also offers broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection.

Medicinal Ingredients: Zinc Oxide 9.0%, Titanium Dioxide 7.0%

Live Clean Sport Mineral Sunscreen Spray SPF 30:

This spray form is a great choice as it's so easy to apply with its continuous spray nozzle. It's especially helpful if you don't have someone around to help you get areas that you have difficulty reaching. This one offers water and sweat resistant protection for up to 40 minutes. Like the others, this offers broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection and does not contain any chemical sunscreens, and is non-nano.

Medicinal Ingredients: Zinc Oxide 16.5%

Live Clean 98% After Sun Aloe Vera Gel:

This is a must-have! I always make sure we have some all year round as it has so many uses! It has such amazing healing properties and helps to heal skin that's been exposed to the sun and can be used for minor burns. The aloe is naturally hydrating and will soothe your skin and reduce itching. It's 98% certified organic and is a special blend with certified organic Arnica Extract, Australian Tea Tree Oil, plus Vitamin E. Combined, these ingredients will reduce itching, hydrate and soothe your skin while replenishing the skin's moisture barrier.

Like all Live Clean Products, These Are:
  • petrolatum free
  • silicone free
  • paraben free
  • phthalate free
  • dye free
  • vegan
  • gluten-free
  • cruelty-free
  • hypoallergenic
  • fragrance-free
  • dermatologist tested
  • affordable and accessible

Other precautions we can take is to wear a hat, use an umbrella (especially when at the beach), there are even clothes available that have sun protection built in (I've seen some at Old Navy). Don't forget to protect your eyes with a good pair of sunglasses that offer both UVA and UVB protection.

Live Clean products are available at Walmart, Shoppers Drug Mart, Well.ca

Wishing everyone a fun-filled and safe summer! 🍉

Makeup Collection | Bronzers

When the makeup hoarder in me wants to go buy a new bronzer because Summer is coming but clearly I don't need any! 🌞😛🙈😂

I gathered up all my bronzers because I knew I didn't need any and I wanted to kill that urge to get something new by looking through my collection. So, I thought I'd share my bronzer collection with y'all.

I mainly use bronzers to add colour to my face and make me look like I have a bit of a tan or at least look like I'm alive and somewhat healthy. That's why I prefer bronzers with a bit of a red undertone vs. something orangy or ashy. I do contour my jawline and nose, but I just use the same bronzer for that purpose as well.

BH Cosmetics Bronze Paradise palette - I use this palette mainly for the eyeshadows but I do use the bronzer in here as a crease shade on my eyes. The bronzer here isn't my favourite formula, but at least it's there for when I might need it during travel etc.

Covergirl Serving Sculpt Palette in Bloom Babe - What an awesome and smooth formula that Covergirl created here! Each powder in this palette is fabulous and the colours are perfect! I know I've shared it on my site before. Definitely one of my favourites and great for travel since you have a highlight, blush, and bronzer in one.

Physicians formula Butter Bronzer in Bronzer & Deep Bronze- I purchased the original shade which is Bronzer, I find it a little muddy on me but I adore the smooth, blendable formula, so I purchase the Deep Bronze when it came out. Although my skin is fair, I much prefer the Deep Bronze shade as it is less cool-toned than the Bronze shade and doesn't look muddy on my skin.

Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Medium to Dark- As you can see, I've hit pan on this one. TBH, it's so old now I should probably toss it but I really like this one. I do take some packing tape to it once in a while to take off any hardpan that's formed on the top. :)  The tone of this one is perfect and it's not shimmery and not matte. There are little shimmers in the pan but they don't translate on the skin. It's hard to describe but it just makes it so the bronzer doesn't look powdery or flat on my skin. This formula is not as soft as the Butter Bronzer by PF but it still goes on smooth and blends well. This is probably my favourite bronzer of the bunch! It gives me that tanned, kissed-by-the-sun look that I'm after.

Gathering up all my bronzers together has indeed worked and the urge to go purchase a new one is quelled... for now. 😉 I might have to do this with the rest of my makeup collection when I get the urge to shop for something that I don't need. And, I should definitely do this with my closet!

Monthly Empties | Health, Beauty, Skincare Favourites and Fails!

Happy Friday, everyone! 💗

I'm way overdue for an empties post. I can't believe my last one was in January (linked here).

I had so many empties since then that I just had to toss some in the recycling as my empties box was severely overflowing.

I'll keep my reviews for each product as brief as possible and provide links to products whenever possible.

Skincare & Beauty

L'Oreal Wrinkle Expert 45+ Day/ Night Moisturizer (gifted)
I LOVED this moisturizer! I have never looked to L'Oreal for my skincare before, just their makeup but this moisturizer was as good as high-end products in my opinion. It was really hydrating and made my skin feel great, and it's SO affordable! Now I want to try the one for 55+ even though I'm not over 55 yet, but the more antiaging the better as far as I'm concerned. Seems that drugstore skincare has really stepped up their game! I was also blown away by Cetaphil's new moisturizer! L'Oreal Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- Yes

Paula's Choice Resist Moisture Renewal Oil Booster
I love using oils to seal in my serums and moisturizers. This oil booster has a blend of oils plus ceramides and argan oil. I do like this oil but I feel like any oil gives me the same effect, whether it be argan, almond oil, or avocado oil which are a few of my favourites, and they can be purchased in large quantities at low prices. I usually get mine on iHerb as they are usually even cheaper there. Paula's Choice is linked HERE.

Repurchase- Possibly

Organic Nation More Than Rose Hydration Mist (gifted)
This is a gorgeous rose toner that's just about as organic as you can get. It's packed with amazing, skin-loving ingredients. I found it very soothing and hydrating and the scent was gorgeous! I love using it to set my makeup and to layer my skincare for better absorption. If it was more accessible and priced lower, I would definitely purchase it. Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- No

Eco Tools Mask Remover Sponges
I adore these sponges. I don't just use them to remove my face masks, I also use them when I cleanse my face and remove my makeup. They are so gentle on my skin but help to remove all traces of dirt and makeup, plus, I get a bit of exfoliation with them. They are made of the same materials used in high-end spas! They are so cheap on iHerb and I'm always stocking up! I replace mine every few months. Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- YES!

Simon & Tom BB Cream All-in-one Beautifying Balm SPF 15 (Light)
I loved this BB cream! I needed the tiniest amount and it evened out my skin tone and it looked like my skin but better! The only issue for me was that it's too dark for me and this was the shade light :( It lasted forever, too! Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- Even though the light is too dark for me, I still may repurchase as I was able to make it work by applying very little. I loved the effect on my skin!

Maybelline Brow Precise Fiber Volumizer
Tinted brow fibres are my preferred way to groom my brows. Unfortunately, I could not make this product work for me. The brush is just too large for me. I always ended up with too much product and it would end up all other my eye area and I'd have to clean it up. I went back to my favourite one by Essence. The Maybelline one has great reviews, so perhaps it's user error. Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- No

Sally Hansen Salon Manicure in I Lilac You
I am decluttering this polish. It looks more like a baby blue on me. Every time I put it on, I immediately want to take it off. So it has to go! I think it would suit someone with a darker skin tone.

Repurchase- Not this shade

Cocoa Locks Chocolate Hair Shake (gifted)
I adore this product! I had amazing results with it. I was losing heaps of hair and once I started the Cocoa Locks, the shedding stopped. I have before and after pics and a full review here. This stuff is the real deal. I was grateful to receive it in PR but unfortunately, it's not in my current budget.  Note: there is also a Hot Chocolate version. Both are good! Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- When it's in my budget, yes!!!!

Health & Wellness

GNC SuperFoods Ultra Mega-Green Women's Whole Food Advanced Multivitamin
This was my first time purchasing this multivitamin. It was on sale, so I decided to give it a shot. I also read that GNC had met many standards through 3rd party testing. I have to say, I was impressed. I felt good while taking these and noticed improvements with regularity right away. Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- Yes

Paradise Herbs Orac-Energy Greens
This product won Best of Supplements. It has alkalizing greens plus freeze-dried berries and veggies, superfood concentrates, herbal adaptogens, probiotics and more! It's great in smoothies, I just kept forgetting to take it. I do love the blend of ingredients in this product and the fact that it's an award-winner. Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- Yes

Now Food Glycine Powder
If you follow my blog, you've heard me talk about this product before. I purchased it for its claims to help with sleep. Although I did not notice an improvement with my sleep, it did make a significant difference with my daytime stress levels. I still have stress but not as much. I have to take a full teaspoon of this in my bottle of water. I won't be without this product! Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- Heck Yah!

Bach Flowers Rescue Night Spray
Although this product is certainly not a cure-all for my severe insomnia, it does seem to help somewhat so I always keep it on hand. Bach flowers have a very gentle and subtle action on the system. Would probably do wonders for those with less severe sleep issues. I even take a few sprays when I wake up and it often helps me go back to sleep. It's all natural and doesn't have any contraindications with medications. Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- Yes

Mercola Sleep Support With Melatonin
This has to be my best discovery for help with sleep in a LONG time! I can only imagine how it would help someone with less severe insomnia that what I have. The first night that I took it, I passed out almost immediately. My body gets used to things, so I no longer pass out immediately, but it does help. I did find that my magic dose is 2 sprays per night and the same if I wake in the middle of the night. The recommended dose is 6 sprays but you can customize it to your needs very easily. I use it every night in addition to other sleep aids. I always buy it in bulk! Can purchase HERE.

Repurchase- Oh ya!

Hyalogic HyaFlex for Cats, Oral Hyaluronic Acid, Joint Care
This product is pricey but worth it. Within 2 hours after my cats first dose, he was charging around the house like a kitten. I give him half of the recommended dose to make it last longer. If I need to, I will up the dose but he seems fine with half the dose. There is also a formula for dogs (linked here). I cannot recommend this enough if you have an ageing pet or one who has joint issues. Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- Yes

Now Foods Better Stevia French VanillaI have this stevia in about 5 flavours. They are not bitter at all and a bottle lasts for years! I use them in everything you can think of from baking to smoothies, coffee, tea and more. It's super affordable and great tasting. Can be purchased HERE.

Repurchase- Yes

I hope you enjoyed seeing what I finished up recently, what I loved and what didn't work for me.

At some point in our lives, many of us will experience hair loss or thinning hair. Whether it's permanent or temporary, it can be very disheartening and affect our confidence. Luckily, Fibolica all natural Advanced Hair Thickening Fibers hides thinning hair easily and quickly and without any mess! And, this product doesn't discriminate, it's a unisex product that works for both men and women.

Fibolica Hair Thickening Fibers come in a shaker style bottle that makes application a breeze and it literally takes seconds to apply. Just shake or tap the bottle wherever you want coverage, brush through gently or pat with your hands. I chose to pat with my hands and it did not stain my hands. The application was not only easy and quick but mess free!

The fibers feel very light and do not leave any tacky feel, rather they leave a very smooth and natural feel. I found it to be undetectable in my hair both visually and to the touch. I am able to touch my hair throughout the day and no product transfers.

Each bottle contains 25 grams of product which is a 2 month supply per bottle. However, it could last much longer, it all depends on how much hair loss you want or need to conceal and whether you use a light or heavy application, you have complete control.

Available in 9 shades:
  • Black
  • Dark Brown
  • Medium Brown
  • Light Brown
  • Blonde
  • Light Blonde
  • Dark Red
  • Grey
  • White
You can view the colour chart linked here.

Shown here are the hair fibers in Light Brown.

How Fibolica Works

"Fibolica is simple and easy to use. Simply shake Fibolica onto the thinning areas on your head and watch as the hair fibers statically bond securely to your existing hair, similar to thousands of tiny magnets, instantly adding dramatic density and volume to your thinning areas. In fact, the bond is so strong the hair fibers can even withstand rain, wind and sweat."

Fibolica Hair Fibers in Light Brown
Fibolica's 'Unique' All Natural Ingredients:

"Most other hair fibers contain dangerous animal ingredients, synthetic dyes or chemicals, artificial fillers and preservatives. Fibolica uses a patented all-natural formula that can be applied even on the most sensitive skin without causing any irritation at all. The hair fibers are made from Moroccan Gossypium Herbaceum, a natural fiber extracted from a plant that only grows in arid regions of Morocco. These plant fibers bond up to 200% stronger than regular hair fibers, which are usually made of wool (also marketed as keratin protein)."

As they say, a picture can be worth a thousand words, so below I have shared some close-ups of my before and afters with Fibolica Hair Fibers (all using the light brown shade).

My hair is highlighted blonde but my roots are brown. Although this colour didn't turn out to be an exact match with my hair colour, it blended with my hair seamlessly and did not alter my colour at all. I gather from this, that as long as you select a colour close to your hair colour, you probably can't go wrong. You can also contact Fibolica for a colour recommendation. They are very helpful!

All before and after photos are with one light application.

I only applied the fibers where I decided to part my hair. If you have other areas where you would like coverage just part and shake..

One light application on unwashed hair

One light application on freshly washed hair

I used a very light application each time that I used the product and the product was undetectable in my hair. I could have easily added more product if I wanted more coverage.

I love how natural looking this product looks AND feels in my hair and how well it covers the areas that are sparse. I also love how quick and easy it is to apply and that it's mess free and doesn't transfer at all.

Although I have finished using this product for testing purposes, I will continue to use it and that speaks volumes!
