How to Continue Your Chiropractic Results at Home

If you've been dedicatedly showing up to your chiropractor's office, feeling the hard-won results and relief in your body, and have been thinking: 'How can I keep this momentum going at home?', then this article is for you.

With a bit of knowledge and the right technique, you can prolong the benefits of your in-office adjustments. Here are some of the best tips on continuing your chiropractic results at home, ranging from posture tweaks to mindfulness practices!

Beginning Chiropractic Aftercare

After every adjustment, your body needs a little time to understand and get used to the newly achieved alignment. You might feel sensitive, exhausted or even experience a slight discomfort. It is entirely normal!

It's essential not to disrupt the treatment by using muscles that are still tender. A phased return to normal activity allows weakened muscles to strengthen as they adjust to their new positions.

Sustaining Spinal Alignment

Spinal health significantly impacts overall wellbeing. Remaining attentive to spinal alignment while sitting, standing, or moving proves vital. Visualizing a string suspended from one's head to the ceiling while stationary or mobile provides an excellent mental image of proper upright posture - greatly benefiting spinal alignment.

Apps and wearable posture trainers now enable people to monitor spinal positioning throughout the day and provide helpful alerts when slouching occurs. Setting reminders to pause and reset posture throughout lengthy tasks bolsters mindfulness. Even gentle stretches and neck rolls alleviate tension from hunching.

An integrative approach to chiropractic care means supplementing adjustments with complementary wellness techniques like massage, acupuncture, or yoga. These modalities work together to quicken recovery and cultivate robust health.

Maintaining Posture Awareness

Consciousness of one's posture throughout the day strongly influences how long chiropractic results endure. Remaining observant of the body's positioning - whether relaxed on the couch or hunched over a work desk - proves insightful. Brief posture checks enable course corrections of slouching while tools like ergonomic chairs or standing desks offer neck and shoulder support.

Practicing mindfulness meditation enhances self-awareness which translates into improved posture mindfulness even while engrossed in challenging cognitive or physical tasks. This modern device-driven world often compromises posture but conscious corrections mitigate cramping and misalignments.

Importance of Regular Movement

Frequent physical activity crucially maintains wellbeing. Movement lubricates joints, energizes blood flow, enhances flexibility, and strengthens muscles – all contributing to a thriving spine! The spine necessitates movement to uphold its supple function. Small additions like walking or stretching into one’s routine keep it nimble.

Any gentle activity works wonders on spinal health though doctors specifically recommend exercises benefiting core strength, flexibility, and balance like Pilates, swimming, or yoga. Thorough warm-ups and cool-downs bookend workouts helping to keep yourself in shape and prevent injury. Those with limited mobility can perform seated exercises.

Strengthening Exercises

Depending on one's unique needs, chiropractors may recommend targeted strengthening exercises, often focused on the core muscles surrounding the spine to bolster postural support. Consistency remains key when strengthening yet never forcing discomfort. Carefully listening to the body’s responses to these workouts prevents injury.

While core exercises prove foundational, full-body functional movements mimic everyday life in safely building usable strength. Low-weight, high-repetition training suffices over straining with heavy loads. Stretching tense muscles after fortifying them brings the body back into balance.

Ergonomics and Workspace Setup

The environments where one spends considerable time critically affect spinal health. Ergonomically optimized workspace setups that configure equipment like chairs, desks, and screens to match individuals’ proportions assist in maintaining good posture throughout the workday. Investing in ergonomic tools like supportive chairs or keyboards eases neck and shoulder burdens. Even small upgrades generate immense impact over time.

Proper office setup clearly benefits employees but companies implement ergonomic equipment and flexible work-from-home policies also report increased productivity and morale while reducing turnover and absenteeism costs. Schools uniquely position themselves to nurture healthy posture and movement habits in children that will serve them lifelong.

Nutrition and Hydration Importance

Proper nutrition and hydration prove vital to prolonging chiropractic benefits. Healthy eating is one easy way to integrate wellness into your daily life. Balanced diets supply the nutrients necessary for growth and repair while adequate water intake preserves spinal disc and joint health. The recommended daily intake stands at 8-10 glasses to enable optimal bodily functioning.

Anti-inflammatory diets rich in omega fatty acids, leafy greens, and antioxidant-packed fruits and vegetables provide raw materials to heal irritated tissues and reinforce connective structures. Staying properly fueled with nutrient-dense whole foods also powers one through strength and flexibility training critical to spinal health.

Mindfulness and Stress Management

Chronic stress often translates into bodily tension, tightening muscles, and disrupting spinal alignment. Thus, incorporating stress relief techniques like mindfulness meditation retains chiropractic results by calming the nervous system. Even brief daily breathing exercises or meditations drastically decrease anxiety.

Mindfulness directly targets the thought patterns and emotional triggers catalyzing stressful states through non-judgmental awareness cultivated through regular practice. Over time anxious rumination reduces, allowing once tense muscles now poised for misalignment to release.

Sleeping Habits Improvement

Sleeping positions affect conditions such as spinal health. Yet they often go overlooked. Side and back positions better support the spine’s natural curves, especially with contoured pillows elevating the head and knees. Improving sleep ergonomics prevents musculoskeletal pain exacerbation.

Those struggling with discomfort at night may benefit from strategically bolstering pressure points with supportive pillows in side or back sleeping. Stomach sleeping twists the neck and low back excessively over long periods. Establishing cooling, relaxing nighttime routines primes the nervous system for restorative sleep critical to recovery.

Mobility and Flexibility Practices

Upholding joint mobility and flexibility constitutes a key factor in continuing chiropractic benefits at home. Otherwise, rigid, tense muscles emerge, restricting range of motion and causing discomfort. Consistent flexibility exercises via yoga, Pilates, or stretching sustain elasticity. Frequent short sessions prove more valuable than occasional lengthy ones when cultivating lasting flexibility.

Daily movement sessions first actively warm up tissues through light activity then move them through full range of motion to maintain that mobility. Assisting stiff areas with props like yoga blocks or straps helps them regain flexibility at their own pace without causing injury. Cross-training flexibility methods consistently challenge tissues.

Self-Myofascial Release Techniques

Self-myofascial release stretches tight, knotted muscles through movements like foam rolling or massage balls allowing them to regain optimal length and movement following chiropractic adjustments. This self-massage treatment enhances body mechanics and posture when regularly performed.

Myofascial release may produce some discomfort when pressing into tender trigger points but pain should never linger after. It releases bonded muscle fibers improving circulation and lymphatic flow disturbed by scar tissue accumulation over time. Practiced gently, it sustains positive outcomes.

Continuing Routine Check-ups

Continuing routine chiropractic check-ups can aid in maintaining the benefits garnered from initial treatments. Regular check-ins allow for any necessary adjustments or corrections to keep your spine as healthy as possible.

A continual care plan will enable your chiropractor to monitor your progress and make changes if necessary to maintain alignment and promote optimal spinal health.

Closing Thoughts

Maintaining good chiropractic results at home involves holistic consideration of various aspects such as mindful posture awareness, engaging in regular movement, strength training, optimizing workspace ergonomics, staying hydrated, balanced diet intake, stress management practices, and improved sleeping habits along with departmental exercises focused on mobility and flexibility.

Additionally, knowing the role of heat and cold therapy to supplement your chiropractic treatment can prove advantageous. Remember, everyone's body and situation is unique; so always listen to your body, respect its limits, and consult your chiropractor before trying new approaches.

Huge Empties | Makeup, Beauty, Haircare, Health

Happy September, everyone!

I'm so behind with my empties posts that my empties bin has been overflowing and I even have some duplicates 😁

In the interest of time, I will be sharing VERY brief reviews of the products, and links to products will be shared in the product heading for items that I am able to find online. (Note that prices shown are subject to change).

HAIRCARE

I love this mask as well as the same brands' hair oil. This mask leaves my dry and frizzy hair softer and more hydrated. Repurchase- Yes

I enjoy products like this as they multi-task by adding heat protection, frizz control, and hydration. I did like this product but I didn't notice anything extra special about it. It worked well enough but just as well as similar products that are more accessible and less expensive. Repurchase- For the right price

This was a trial size and I got about 3 uses from it. I really enjoyed it! It's one of the few Briogeo products that I've tried that really did work for my hair type and one of the few deep conditioners that really improves the look and feel of my hair. It reduced frizz and really helped to deep conditioned my hair. Repurchase- Maybe (currently trialling It's a 10 deep conditioner and I may like that one a bit better)

SKINCARE/ MAKEUP

This is a great product for the price. It left my skin feeling smooth and hydrated but I didn't use it consistently enough to be able to notice any long term changes. Repurchase- Possibly, but I will probably go back to Paula's Choice and/ or try The Ordinary if I am in the market for a Vitamin C serum again

Loved this product! It was deeply hydrating and soothed my dehydrated skin so well! It's one of those products that I just wanted to bathe in! It's also all-natural and hand made in small batches. Repurchase- Yes

This is a great foundation with a skin-like finish. It blends really easily and provides medium coverage. The shade Y245 was almost perfect, just slightly off for my skin tone but I was still able to use it. Unfortunately, it expired before I could finish it completely. Repurchase- Not for everyday use, I found that the Covergirl Foundation below is very similar (and much cheaper), so I would use that one for everyday use. I may purchase this one in the right shade for a special occasion though

LOVE this foundation! Works like high end, in my opinion, so I don't see a reason to pay more at this time, except maybe for a special occasion. I found this to be very similar to the Makeup Forever Foundation listed above. The shade Classic Ivory was perfect for my skin tone! Repurchase- Yes

Great formula but I wasn't in love with this shade. This shade is better for contouring than an all-over bronze glow, in my opinion, and I'm not big on contouring. I now have the next shade darker (Deep Bronzer) which has a bit of a red tone to it. I find that makes it work well on my skin tone for an all-over bronzed up look. Repurchase- Yes, in the darker shade, Deep Bronzer

This is one of my favourite neutral shades as it's very unique and different from all my other nude shades, it's quite cool-toned. Unfortunately, the formula is so thick and has become too thick to work with now. Repurchase- Probably not unless the formula changes and becomes easier to work with

I've only used a few all-natural mascaras and this is my favourite so far. It's one of those mascaras that gets better and better with time. It didn't flake or smudge but didn't give my lashes as much oomph as I would like. Repurchase- No

Although this eyeliner initially glided on so easily, it dried out in the tube so fast! Even sharpening it doesn't bring it back to life. I will stick with my Essence Long Lasting Eye Pencils- they glide on so smoothly, don't budge, are dirt cheap, and haven't dried out on me! Repurchase- No

HEALTH

I take these along with the same brands' Thyroid Formula, ThyroSense which I am able to take along with my Armour Thyroid medication. I love the adrenal supporting ingredients and I find they help me deal with stress and help with my sleep to some extent. Repurchase- Yes!

I finished up 2 bottles of these sleep gummies. I always have them on my bedside table. One gummy has 1.5mg of melatonin + 100mg of L-Theanine. I prefer low doses of melatonin as higher doses are more likely to make me wake up prematurely. Unfortunately, these are out of stock / seasonal and won't be restocked on iHerb (where I purchase mine) until October. I have tried Vitafusion Sleep Well but it has too much melatonin for me and disrupts my sleep. Repurchase- Yes!

I alternate these with Nature's Bounty Melatonin Gummies listed above. I find that I get better results when I rotate vs. using the same product all the time. This is also a low 1.5mg of melatonin per tablet and includes 5HTP and L-Theanine. I break these in half at times for an even lower dose. I often take another dose if I wake too early and it helps me fall asleep again. These are little powerhouses! Repurchase- Always!

Health & Wisdom Magnesium Oil 16 oz/ $24
This bottle was huge! Magnesium oil has many uses. I mainly use it after my bath or shower and put some on the backs of my knees where it's absorbed more easily. I will definitely repurchase but probably a smaller bottle next time, it took me so long to use it up. If you want to use to make bath products and use for a lot of bath soaks etc., the big size may be a good choice for you. Note: Magnesium products are not to be used by those with kidney/ renal failure. by  Repurchase- Yes

D3 Gummies 1000 IU- 90 gummies
I take D3 every day. I think it's one of the most important vitamins that people can take for overall health. It has so many functions in the body! Just check with your Dr. before beginning any new supplements. I'm not too picky about my D vitamins as long as it's in the D3 form. I am currently taking another brands' D3 gummy because it was on sale. I had my D3 blood levels checked and they are normal since taking these. Repurchase- Yes

These are hands down my favourite multivitamin! I've tried many multivitamins and when I take these one's, I notice a difference in how I feel and my sleep improves too. I only take 2 per day vs the 4 recommended. Note that there are many different formulas in this line, the one with 120 veg caps is the formula that I'm currently using and loving! Repurchase- YES!

I've been taking these probiotics for over 20 years for my IBS. What a difference they make. I've run out and definitely need to repurchase. They are pricey but they are also the best ones that I've ever used. My maintenance dose is only 1 per day. Repurchase- Yes!

Now Foods Relora 300mg - 120 caps / $20
I had luck with these in the past for my sleep issues so I decided to give them another try. They are supposed to help with stress and cortisol and prevent waking up prematurely. Unfortunately, I didn't have luck with it this time. They are worth a try if you are under stress as they may work for you as they did for me in the past. Repurchase- May try again

Now Foods Nattokinase 100mg- 120 veg caps/ $26
I've read a lot of literature singing the praises of Nattokinase for cardiovascular health and it's actions as a natural and safe blood thinner. I am currently giving 30mg a day to my cat for his heart disease. After a lot of research, we chose this as his blood thinner over conventional medications and so far so good. 🙏 AOR also makes a great one! A Holistic Vet agreed to our cat taking this and gave us the recommended dose for him. Repurchase- Yes!

Jarrow Max DHA Fish Oil- 180 soft gels/ $20
This has been my favourite fish oil for years! DHA supports brain and eye health. It has a whole host of other health and beauty benefits as well, too many to count! I may try other fish oils but will always return to this brand and formula. Note that I only take one per day. Repurchase- Yes

I LOVE this Stevia! It is not bitter at all and easy to dispense by the drop. You can use it in coffee, tea, baking, basically anywhere that you want to sweeten something without the calories and sugar! This comes in so many flavours now. I use the English Toffee one on the daily to sweeten my iced coffee, it gives it that extra flavour that makes it like a store-bought brew. 🍵

I hope you found this empties post helpful! I love to hear what people finished up and what their final thoughts are on products. Hopefully, I won't wait so long before my next empties post goes up!

Have a blessed day or night!

Everyday Health and Wellness: Focus on Self-Care Without Busting Your Budget

Everyday Health and Wellness: Focus on Self-Care Without Busting Your Budget

Keeping yourself healthy, mentally and physically, doesn’t need to cost a small fortune. You don’t need a pricey gym membership to stay fit or an exotic vacation to relax. Instead, practice everyday self-care strategies that promote head-to-toe wellness but don’t bust your budget.

Get Enough Quality Sleep

While you are asleep, your body heals, your cells replenish, and your brain commits new information to memory. Most experts agree that seven to nine hours of sleep each night is the proper amount for most people. However, according to the American Sleep Association, 35.3 percent of adults are getting less than seven hours of sleep each night.

Chronic sleep problems can lead to fatigue, impatience, irritability, and inability to concentrate. Over time, sleep deprivation affects immunity, metabolism, and weight. Lack of sleep is also linked to diabetes, heart issues, high blood pressure, some forms of cancer, and other diseases. You can reduce insomnia and other sleep problems by exercising regularly, as well as avoiding alcohol, caffeine, electronics, and overeating in the evenings. Talk to your doctor about lifestyle changes, healthy habits, and treatment options that may help you get a better night’s sleep.

Get a Massage Regularly

Stress can cause both physical and mental issues. If you love a good massage to relax and reduce stress, make it a point to get one regularly, whether from your partner or a pro. You can get inexpensive yet effective massages at a massage school. You might also consider purchasing a massage chair, particularly if you have a job that requires physical labor or standing all day. These come in a wide range of prices, but if you search online, you should be able to find some great deals on massage chairs. Additionally, look to sites like Rakuten for coupons and cashback offers to help maximize your savings. If you shop through Rakuten, you may also find deals for stores with free shipping. If all the massage chairs are beyond your budget, take a look at massage seat cushions instead.

Get Into Yoga

Regular yoga practice can improve sleep quality, energy levels, focus, and self-esteem. Physically, it improves balance, flexibility, muscle strength, blood flow, and posture. Yoga and meditation can also help if you are battling depression or anxiety, and can even reduce your risk of heart disease. You don’t need to pay for pricey yoga classes or drag yourself to a professional yoga studio every day. Instead, you can reap the benefits of yoga in your own home thanks to smartphone apps, video tutorials, and streaming YouTube channels.

Say ‘No’ More Often

It doesn’t cost a thing to say “no,” but it can improve your health and wellness. Being busy is often championed these days, but overscheduling yourself can cause health problems and burnout. Feel free to turn down invitations and requests to attend events, volunteer, work overtime, and so forth. There are only so many hours in a day. You don’t need to feel obligated to say “yes” to things you don’t have the energy, interest, money, and/or time to do.

Taking care of yourself — mind, body, and soul — is essential for your overall health and well-being. However, many people think they need to spend a lot of money to practice optimal self-care and healthy habits when, in fact, the opposite is true. A lavish vacation to a luxury resort or a personal trainer at the trendiest gym in town isn't what's standing between you and wellness. In fact, you don’t need to spend much money at all to focus on yourself and your health. Just follow these everyday habits and lifestyle changes to stay happy and healthy without putting a dent in your wallet.
