Dollar Store Jewelry Organizing Hack #DIY (Frugal Friday on Wednesday)

Like many of you I love to get organized. I found a great way to organize much of my jewelry collection and I thought many of you might be interested. I found this tackle box at the Dollar store and it has workout out so well! I was able to store everything from earrings to necklaces and bracelets and rings, it even holds statement pieces! Some of the compartments have little dividers that you can move around to adjust the size of the compartment. It also has a lid that is attached so you can close it up and keep everything safe and dust-free inside. When organized in this tackle box everything stays tangle free, which is such a bonus! It's not too pretty to look at so I have it stored in my top dresser drawer. All I have to do is open the drawer and pop open the lid and I can see all of my choices. Well, most of them, as I do have some more jewelry that I keep in a jewelry box and some other necklaces on a tower on my dresser. I do LOVE my jewelry!

It's come in so handy. I can imaging using this tackle box for many other organization DIY's. You could organize your sewing supplies, makeup (single eye shadows would be great), as well as other craft supplies.

With the lid closed:

I have things further organized by colour and style as you can see below.

ps. I found this in the tool section of my dollar store as it was meant for fishing tackle or storing screws and nails etc. It also came in various sizes. So go check out your dollar store! I'd love to hear if you try this out or if you have any frugal DIY's for getting organized.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Holidays & Happy New Year- 2016!

Just a little note to wish all of my readers Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to you and your families! Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah or something else, I hope you take this time to enjoy yourself and find the time for a lot of R & R as well. Whether you are surrounded by loved one's or not, I hope you all find a way to enjoy the season.

When it comes to  a Christmas wish list, I have the same one every year: Health and Happiness. That's all that really matters.

I know the Holidays can be a really difficult time for a lot of people, just know that if that is the case for you, you are not alone and I will be thinking of you and wishing you all the best. Just do whatever it is that you enjoy. I definitely blaze my own trail at this time of year and all year for that matter. I don't feel the need to "keep up with the Joneses" so to speak, I try to do what I enjoy. We can create new traditions and/or follow old one's, it's all up to you.  And, then comes the new year right around the corner. I think the new year always brings with it the feelings of the chance for a new start. Write down what you want to accomplish in the new year, even if it's just one thing. It's also a good time to reflect on the year past and learn from any mistakes, and then leave them behind us.

This is Health and Beauty Girl's first Christmas. I started this blog in the Spring of 2015 with the hopes of sharing and connecting with others on all the things I am passionate about; from health to beauty, and beyond. I don't know what the new year holds for me or Health and Beauty Girl, only time will tell. That's part of the fun sometimes, not knowing what's ahead. It can be scary at times but also exciting, wondering what the future holds.

One of my wishes for the new year is that people can be little kinder and less judgmental of one another, it's hard enough out there these days! I feel very lucky, I've met a lot of really great people through this blog and I'm very grateful for that.

I wish all of you a year full of health and happiness!

See you next year!

Paula's Choice Lip & Body Treatment Balm #Review

I have a tiny haul to share with you. I wanted to get this out there while the Free shipping and sale are still going on. Right now, Paula's Choice is having 15% off best sellers (the product in this haul was included) + free shipping on everything, and if you spend $65 or more they will send you a free eye shadow palette (code: GLAM15).  Oh, and you always get to choose up to 3 free samples with your order (mine are pictured above). If you want to score this at a real bargain, right now you will get 15% off plus free shipping, and if you've never ordered from PC before just add something else to bring your total to $15 and you can use a referral code to get $10 off your order, making this cost about $5 which will also include whatever other item you chose to add!  # for great deals.

Note: If you miss this sale, never fear, Paula's Choice is always having new sales as you will see in my upcoming haul. You can also sign up for PC emails to find out about the deals as they happen. They will also send you a discount code for your first purchase which you can stack on top of your $10 off!

I've heard so much about Paula's Choice over the last couple of years. I had a $10 off code from a blogger, so I finally bit the bullet and placed an order (that order will be featured in an upcoming haul). But, for now, I wanted to share this little order I placed for their Lip & Body Treatment Balm.

I have horribly dehydrated lips and I pick and bite and peel away at them, it's such a horrible habit that I need to break. I am definitely addicted to lip balms and find myself applying them all day and night. I've used Carmex, Aquaphor (those were the heavy-hitters for me), as well as numerous other balms including organic one's. Despite trying what seemed like everything, I was still looking for my Holy Grail lip balm.

The Balm (pictured above with cap off) is a solid balm and quite hard in consistency. It's also a generous size at 0.5oz. Once you warm the product up with your finger it applies easily and is not too thick, but it's very emollient and hydrates nicely. I've had this product for a week and I definitely would say that this product is the best lip balm/ treatment I have used so far. It is definitely the longest lasting, so I am not applying it every 5 minutes, more like every few hours. Since my lips don't dry out since I've been using this, I've reduced my picking and peeling of my lips. I am hoping that this will help me break that horrible habit for good. Only time will tell though.

As it states, this treatment balm is also intended for use on the body. It could be used on dry cuticles, elbows, heels, you name it. Because it's contained in a pot where you have to stick your finger in it, I prefer to only use it for my lips. I wish Paula's Choice would put this formula in a stick form. But, I would definitely purchase this again. Even with what I think is a high price tag for a lip balm I think it's worth it and I can tell it's going to last for a really long time.

Here is some info from Paula's Choice website:

This long-lasting, emollient balm offers on-the-spot relief for dry, rough, chapped lips, or anywhere on the body.
  • Eczema
  • Dry/Very Dry Skin
  • Targeted relief for dry lips, cuticles, feet, hands
  • Creates a protective barrier allowing skin to heal
  • Balm is substantial, but not overly thick or waxy
Product Ingredients: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Petrolatum (emollients), Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax (thickener), Lanolin, C10-30 Cholesterol/Lanosterol Esters (emollients), Beeswax (Cera Alba), Ozokerite, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, CoperniciaCerifera (Carnauba) Wax (thickeners), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Jojoba Esters, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil (plant emollients/oils), Bisabolol (soothing agent), Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (stabilized vitamin C/antioxidant), Tocopheryl Acetate (vitamin E/antioxidant), Trihydroxystearin, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene (thickeners).

Overall, I give this product 2 thumbs up! I can't wait to get my other order from Paula's Choice and see how those products fare. After this experience, I'm having high hopes for them. I will definitely share my haul with you when my order arrives, it's much bigger than this, so stay tuned. ;)

I now have a referral link that I can share with my readers that will give you $10 off your first order (minimum $15 purchase). Once you've placed an order, you will receive your own referral link that you can share as well.

Click here if you would like to use the $10 off referral link.   (note: this is an affiliate link and we will both benefit).  Of course if you'd rather find another referral link I understand, but if you use my link it is definitely most appreciated.

Paula's Choice is also Cruelty-Free which is hugely appreciated by me!!

Have you used Paula's Choice? If so, what are your favourite products?

Olay Total Effects 7 in One Anti-Aging Moisturizer #BzzAgent #Review

I recently received a sample of the new Olay Total Effects, 7 in One Anti-Aging Moisturizer in the new trial size that will be available in stores in February. This was sent to me free from Olay via BzzAgent

My sample thanks to BzzAgent and Olay!

I was really excited to try Olay again. I used to use Olay exclusively in my 20's and 30's, and everyone would ask what I used on my skin. And, back then, people always guessed that I was about 10 years younger than I was (miss those days).

After I hit my 40's, I guess I decided I needed to spend more on skincare to battle the signs of aging. Ever since, I have been experimenting with different products on the regular. Trying to find "the one" and spending a fortune!

This is the first time I've gone back to Olay since my 30's. I've been using this sample for a couple of weeks now, and my skin couldn't be happier! Olay has always agreed with my skin; it's never caused any irritations or breakouts for me as some products can. I love the light scent of the product as well as the consistency. It leaves my skin super-hydrated without being greasy at all. It sinks right into the skin and keeps me hydrated all day.

My skin is looking great overall and I especially notice that my aging neck isn't looking so aged! I will definitely be purchasing the full-size of this product to give it more time to work, and I'm excited to see what happens to my skin after using the product for more time.

I know this product has some great ingredients for anti-aging, like Niacinimide, Pro-Vitamin B5, Vitamin E and more. The ingredients list is pictured below. Some of the ingredients are in latin, for example, Camellia Senesis Leaf Extract is Green Tea Extract which is also fabulous for anti-aging!

My lesson here, is two-fold: 1. Sometimes you don't have to spend a fortune for good products 2. Sometimes if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Do you use Olay? If so, what products do you use and what has been your experience?

DIY- How to Revive Dried up Cream Eyeshadow/ Maybelline Color Tattoo

How many of us have cream eye shadows that we love, only for them to dry up and become unusable after a few months. This Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze is one of my favourite, everyday, go-to easy eye looks.  But, after a while it just dried up so I couldn't even use it.

I refused to throw it out with so much product left- what a waste that would be! Then, I came across a YouTube video by MrsTheDoll where she showed how to revive a dried up Color Tattoo. Full credit goes to her for this idea!

Never mind microwaving your Color Tattoos (as many have recommended), that just cooks your product and in the end leaves it even drier that what you started with.

Here is a simple method, that makes a lot of sense. I've tried it and I'm here to share it with Y'all because it works!

What you will need:
-Glycerin
-Stir stick (a stiff toothpick or something skinny but strong to stir with)
-Your dried up shadow

Glycerin is an inexpensive product. The 4oz bottle pictured above is under $5 on iHerb.com and you can find glycerin at most drugstores or health food stores. Glycerin is a moisturizer and a powerful hydrator, and if you look at the labels on your moisturizing products (skincare etc.) glycerin is probably in most of them.

Getting started: Just Add one small drop of glycerin (I happen to have vegetable glycerin) to your dried up eye shadow pot. Find something to stir it with, something small like pictured above. A stiff, wooden toothpick may do the job. Stir well.

It wont look pretty at this point but you can smooth it all out after. I haven't yet, but it's probably better to press it down to prevent air getting in more and drying it out again. I'll be pressing mine tomorrow, I just couldn't wait to share this with you.

I let mine sit, lid on tight as always and stored face down until the next day. Here it is a few days later, revived and like new again. It actually feels even better than when it was new, in my opinion. It's a little more hydrating for my crinkly lids.

I am so glad I found a solution for my dried up cream shadows. If it dries up again, I'll just add another drop of glycerin. Now I'm thinking this would probably work for other dried up cream products as well.

Let me know if you try this and how it worked for you.

Makeup, Beauty, Skincare, and Health: Empties for October/November with Reviews!

Better late than never. I never posted my empties for October so this post will include products I finished up in October and November. As you can see there is quite a bit so I will try to be brief with my reviews on each item. As always, I will provide links to products where possible.

It's a dreary, overcast day here, so hopefully the pictures aren't too bad..

If you'd like to see some more empties, my last empties post was in September and it can be viewed here .

Makeup

  • Quo Complexion Highlighter- I've had this cream highlighter since around 2009 or earlier. I never use it and it's expired, it goes on patchy now. With the strobing trend going on now this would be a great product for them to re-introduce, it was a limited edition product.
  • Sonia Kashuk Undetectable Cream Bronzer (Warm Tan)- This is a great cream bronzer. I heard it's a dupe for Chanel's cream bronzer. If I needed another cream bronzer I would definitely purchase this again. (note: this is part of my #6byChristmas / #projectempties on IG)
  • Covergirl Lashblast Fusion- I received this from BzzAgent free for trial purposes. Here is my full review on it. It built upon itself really well and was easy to remove.
  • Essence Lash & Brow Gel- I like this product in a pinch and the price is right, but I find the formula is too wet, so I have gone back to Elf's clear brow gel.
  • Jordana Fabuliner in black- This product really lived up to the hype. It is super pigmented and with the felt tip it gave me great control. It lasted forever and it's super inexpensive too at $1.99.

Skincare

  • Retin A 0.04% by prescription- I've been using this Retin A cream for well over a year (maybe 2) and this formula never caused any irritation to my skin at all. Retin A is supposed to be one of the best Anti-agers out there, so I will continue to use it.
  • Reviva Labs Elastin & Collagen Toner- Talk about soothing. I love this stuff and will always go back to it. It is Holy Grail for sure! I buy it on iHerb.com where it's much cheaper than my local stores.
  • Up & Up Waterproof Makeup Remover- I bought this on clearance during Target's liquidation event before they left Canada. Thank goodness I only bought one. This burned my eyes so badly that I had to check and see if I used my nail polish remover by accident! I poured it out...Buh-bye!
  • Olay Refreshing Citrus Scrub Cleanser- I keep this scrub in my shower and only use it on the days that I wash my hair, so it lasts me quite a while. It's very gentle but you have to remove your eye makeup separately. I buy this in a 2 pack for around $7 CAD when the warehouse sale comes around. I would not purchase it at drugstore prices. They didn't have it in stock at the last warehouse sale, so I purchased one by Simple Skincare that is new to me.
  • Martina Gebhardt Black Mud Cream- This is Holy grail for me. I don't think I will ever be without it. I only use it at night, over a serum and layered with an oil on top of that. This completely got rid of my adult acne and help with dehydration (which is apparently why I was getting acne). I purchase this from Pure and Simple Spa and I always wait for a good sale and stock up!
  • Michael Todd KNU (New You) Cream- I purchased this years ago on Groupon for a steal! If I could get it at a good enough price I would buy it again.

Misc
  • Nexxus Pro-Mend Targeted Leave-in Treatment- I would not purchase this again. It was fine at first but nothing special either. It wasn't until I finally finished it and moved onto my Argan Oil (review here), that I realized my hair was breaking off way too much. Once it was gone and I switched to my Argan Oil, my hair fallout and breakage lessened dramatically. I did not read anywhere on the bottle a warning to only use occasionally.
  • Now Foods Xyli.White Neem & Tea Tree Toothpaste- If you like to avoid fluoride in your toothpaste as well as parabens, gluten, and SLS, I cannot recommend this enough. Even if you are not avoiding those things I highly recommend this line of toothpastes. There are many flavours to choose from and some without the Neem. My dental checkups improved since I switched to this line. I buy mine on iHerb as it's much cheaper than my local store.
  • Aquaphor Healing Ointment- This is fabulous for chapped lips in the colder months! Not so natural, but when my lips are in bad shape, this is my go to, this and Carmex.

Supplements

When it comes to supplements, we are all so different. I will share my experiences and hope that it helps someone. As always, consult with your health care specialist before starting any new supplements as many herbs and supplements can interact with medications etc.
  • FemMED Hormonal Balance- This is a great combination of herbs for female hormone balance. I buy it whenever I see a good sale on it. Otherwise, I will stick with the much more affordable single herb Vitex.  (Note: to my knowledge, the Hormone balance and Vitex are herbs to be used before the menopause phase, not after).
  • Nature's Answer Rhodiola- This is an adoptogen, meaning it helps us adapt to stress (you can read more about it here). I will never be without this herb, it's the only thing that stopped me from waking up at 5am everyday! Although, it doesn't stop my cat from waking me! (note: I only take 1 per day vs. the 2 it recommends on the bottle).
  • Melissa (Lemon Balm)- Lemon Balm is soothing on the nervous system. I usually drink Lemon Balm tea at night to help with sleep. The only problem with that is it causes me to wake up to use the washroom. To combat that issue, I bought these capsules as it's more convenient and resolves the trips to the washroom. I still prefer the tea, but keeping a bottle of this by my bedside is great in case my cat does wake me up in the wee hours, I can just pop one or two of these babies and usually go back to sleep.
  • iHerb Vitamin D- I got these free with an iHerb order. At 5,000 IU per softgel I would only take this dose on occasion. I prefer to take Now Foods with 2000 IU, especially in the winter time when I'm not getting out in the sunshine. Now, if only I could remember to take them everyday.
  • Now Foods Gr8-Dophilus- I liked this probiotic but I prefer Garden of Life's Primal Defense. It's more expensive but it's worth it for me, I buy the big-daddy size to make it more affordable. I found the Now Foods Gr8-Dophilus was better for female issues, whereas the Primal Defense was better for stomach or bowl issues. I have had IBS (Irritable Bowl Syndrome) my whole life. I wrote a whole blog post on my experience with IBS and how Primal Defense probiotics have helped me.
  • Now Foods Multi One- This was another deal on iHerb. I didn't notice anything special while taking these. I would not purchase at full price.
  • Healthy Origins CoQ10 100mg- This is another supplement that I will never go without. I have heart issues and this helps keep them under control. Even if you don't have heart issues this is a really important supplement, especially if over 40. As we age, we produce less and less Q10 and the cells in our body require it, it is also an anti-oxidant. I purchase the less expensive form called Ubiquinone. Many say the best form on the market right now is Ubiquinol, however, in my research I found out that our stomachs convert the more expensive Ubiquinol to the less expensive Ubiquinone anyways. Still, many prefer to purchase Q10 in the form of Ubiquinol and swear by it. You can find some info on Q10 here: WebMD on Q10
From iHerb's website on Q10:  "Healthy Origins CoQ10 (Ubiquinone) is a naturally occurring substance that facilitates the production of cellular energy. In every cell in your body there are small engines called mitochondria. Ninety-five percent of the total energy created within the body comes from these mitochondria, and none of it can take place without CoQ10."

Wow, that was a lot of empties! I hope you found some helpful info in this post. I love reading reviews on products that have been finished up or in some cases poured out. I feel like we can form a definite opinion on a products performance when it's been used for a while.

If you have an empties post, please share it in the comments. I'd love to come and check it out.

ps. Come and join the blogger fun @ fabulousandfunlife
