CELEBRITY AND EDITORIAL MAKEUP ARTIST KATIE JANE HUGHES TEAMS UP WITH SHOPPERS DRUG MART FOR ITS BIGGEST BEAUTY EVENT OF THE YEAR

The For The Love of Beauty Event inspires beauty exploration with new brands and PC Optimum offers

BRAMPTON, ON, September 19, 2021 / Shoppers Drug Mart, one of Canada’s leading health and wellness retailers, is inspiring customers to explore the latest beauty trends and discover new products during its month long For the Love of Beauty Event. The campaign, which is the retailer’s biggest beauty event of the year, runs until Friday, October 8th, and includes an IG Live Beauty Mingle Event featuring internationally renowned celebrity and editorial makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes.

“There are so many new and exciting things taking place in our beauty business,” says Michelle Broda, Senior Director, Prestige Beauty at Shoppers Drug Mart. “We are incredibly proud to be launching a number of global brands exclusively at Shoppers Drug Mart including Kylie Jenner’s Kylie Cosmetics and Kylie Skin and actress Millie Bobby Brown’s Florence by Mills. Beauty enthusiasts are going to love the new high-performing skincare and makeup products that are arriving in our stores.”

For the Beauty Mingle event, the retailer is partnering with celebrity makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes, whose client roster includes Ashley Graham, Hailey Bieber, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Kate Bosworth. According to Hughes, eyeliner is having a big moment. “Eyes obviously continue to be a focal point so now is the perfect time to get creative,” says Hughes. “Don't be afraid to try yellow eyeshadow. Push yourself out of your comfort zone, you can always use makeup remover if you don't like it.”

Katie Jane’s Quick Tips

1. To create a dewy skin look, use a thick emollient cream on the high points of the face.

2. The quickest way to update your look for Fall is try a new, deep lip colour.

3. Adding texture on the eyes is something I love. Try a bit of glitter or shine – even for day.

4. Sometimes the simplest looks are my favourites, like the eyeliner look I did on Ashley Graham. It’s classic and will look chic forever.

Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation & Camouflage Concealer Review + Swatches Shade 010

I'm ecstatic that Catrice Cosmetics has finally arrived in Canada! They have some amazing products at super affordable prices AND they are Cruelty-free! I was so happy to receive their HD Liquid Coverage Foundation and Camouflage Concealer for testing and review consideration.

I had a look at their shade chart (see below) and decided that shade 010 in both the foundation and concealer would probably be the best match for my light-medium skin with neutral undertones.

Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation Shade 010

From Catrice:
  • Ultra-light, high coverage foundation for a natural-looking finish
  • Covers imperfections and mattifies the skin creating a smooth and even complexion for up to 24 hours
  • Features a unique dropper applicator
  • Scroll down to our shade finder to find your perfect match
  • Vegan
The foundation comes in a glass bottle with a dropper style dispenser.

The shade 010 was a good match for my skin tone when I don't have a tan. It oxidizes very slightly but not in an orange way, it just gets very slightly darker, so keep this in mind when selecting a shade. I could actually use a slightly darker shade because I prefer my foundation to be just a bit darker on me as I like to add some colour to my face. However, I can also add the extra colour to my face with some bronzer etc.

This foundation has great coverage and gives you the option of lighter or heavier coverage depending on how much you apply and your application method. Most days, I prefer a lighter coverage, so I use a damp beauty sponge for this type of coverage. I can achieve more coverage by using a brush instead. Note that very little product is needed and I would always start off with less and build from there.

I didn't find this foundation to be cakey at all and it did not settle into my lines either. It's actually very suitable for my aging skin. I cannot speak for 24 hour staying power as I wash it off before bed, but hey, there are always those times you might want 24-hour staying power (hello, my younger days!) The staying power is great though and I did not become oily throughout the day which is pretty much unheard of for me!

Catrice Camouflage Concealer in Shade 010

From Catrice:
  • Long lasting, liquid concealer for weightless coverage
  • Highly pigmented and waterproof formula instantly hides dark circles, imperfections and redness
  • Flock tip applicator for precise application

The Camouflage concealer was also a good match for me in the shade 010. It's lighter than the foundation but has a more pink undertone to it which is great for brightening the under eyes.

The concealer worked well for both my under eyes, redness, and blemishes. I have been wearing this concealer often for lighter makeup days. I just apply some of this concealer where needed and then apply some powder, bronzer, lipgloss and I'm good to go. If I want more coverage for conference calls etc, I add in the foundation so I can look more polished.

I love that this concealer isn't detectable on the skin and that it doesn't settle into fine lines. It states that it's waterproof. I haven't tested out that claim but I have used it on days that I've worked out and it sure stood up to sweat, so I don't doubt that it's waterproof.

A little also goes a long way with this product also, so very little is needed and I start with less and add more as needed. I appreciate that it is not cakey or drying on my combination, dehydrated, and aging skin.

Top: Foundation shade 010
Bottom: Concealer shade 010

I'm so happy with both of these products and think that they stand up to high-end products at such affordable prices!

Catrice has a large selection of shades to choose from, so there should something for everyone. At the time of this post, there are 23 foundation shades to choose from and 17 concealer shades.

I really appreciate that Catrice makes inclusive products that work for all generations including those with aging skin!

These products are cruelty-free, gluten-free, alcohol-free, and oil-free.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

New! Live Clean Super Fruit Waters Quenching Curls Shampoo and Conditioner Review

I'm so excited to share with you that Live Clean has just launched 2 fabulous new products just in time for summer! If you're a curly and/ or frizzy hair person like me, you know how difficult it can be to deal with this type of hair. Live clean has just made it a whole lot easier with these new products. Read on to learn more..

Live Clean Super Fruit Waters Quenching Curls Shampoo and Conditioner provide curl hydration with ingredients that also tame frizz. The shampoo has micellar water! How cool is that!? 💦 As always, Live Clean has added organic botanicals and extracts. These contain watermelon seed, aloe vera, papaya, and more!

I put these products to the ultimate test by using them on my frizzy hair on a rainy day. I normally hate when I have to wash and style my hair on a rainy day as it makes my frizz that much worse!

After using the shampoo and conditioner, I could see that as my hair was drying, my hair was not getting frizzy like it normally does.  I thought my hair might get weighed down by the conditioner but it did not. And, the scents are nice, light, and fresh!

Live Clean Super Fruit Waters Quenching Curls Shampoo:
Provides hydration while also taming frizz. This moisture-rich shampoo contains micellar water as well as a blend of certified organic extracts- Watermelon Seed, Aloe Vera, and Papaya. It cleanses without stripping moisture and removes product build-up from your hair which is another enemy of curls. It's hydrating, nourishing, and helps to de-frizz.

Live Clean Super Fruit Waters Quenching Curls Conditioner:
Provides curl hydration, tames frizz all without weighing hair down. It leaves your hair with soft, frizz-free, moisturized curls.

Like all Live Clean products, these are:
  • Plant and naturally derived
  • With certified organic botanicals
  • Petrolatum and paraben free
  • Silicone and phthalate free
  • DEA and phosphate free
  • Dye-free
  • Vegan and vegetarian
  • Cruelty-free- Leaping Bunny Certified 🐰
  • Hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested
  • Contains biodegradable ingredients
  • Packaging is recyclable

My verdict: As a naturally curly/frizzy haired girl, I am super happy with the new Super Fruit Waters Quenching Curls line as it tames my frizz without weighing down my hair. This will certainly come in handy in the upcoming hot and humid months when my hair is usually impossible to deal with!

Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme Review!

Featured Product:
Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme 60 pads/ SRP $14.95

I'm a big fan of Nip + Fab products! They are really effective products at such affordable prices. Nip + Fab was founded by Maria Hatzistefanis who was also the founder of Rodial. Nip + Fab pack their products with innovative, high tech, and natural ingredients that work!

My Skin type:
Oily/ combo, dehydrated, aging, acne prone, reactive (I know, nice mix!)

About Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme:
Super-strength acid exfoliating facial pads to target oily + congested skin.
A more potent version of our bestselling glycolic fix pads, these extreme night pads contain our highest level of glycolic acid at 5% and have been further enhanced with the addition of salicylic acid, making these your ultimate night treatment to refine pores, brighten the complexion and de-congest the skin through the improvement of the skin’s natural exfoliation process. Easily incorporated into a weekly routine, use one pad at night 2-3 times a week. For more sensitive skin types we advise usage once a week.

Active Ingredients:
  • 5% glycolic acid: gently exfoliates the skin + helps fade discolouration on the face e.g. acne scarring, pigmentation
  • salicylic acid: penetrates into + unclogs pores helping to combat black heads + reduce blemishes
  • lactic acid: removes dead cells + toxins from the skin for a smoother + more even toned surface
  • hyaluronic acid: improves skin hydration + keeps skin feeling soft + plump

I've been using these glycolic pads for 3 weeks now. Since I use Retin-A at night, I used these during the daytime. I was concerned that it may be too much to use both since my skin can be reactive but I haven't experienced any issues using both my Retin-A and Nip + Fab's Glycolic Night Pads Extreme. There was no stinging, burning, peeling or anything. These turned out to be very effective yet very gentle.

The pads are nicely saturated and one pad is enough for my face, neck, and chest, and you can utilize both sides of the pads.

I used the pads a few times a week in the morning before applying my other skincare. I recommend using SPF anyways, but especially when using acids.

Sometimes when I use skincare like acids, I feel like if I don't feel a burn or stinging sensation,  I assume they aren't working. These pads proved me wrong! The burn or sting that I feel with some products may not be a good thing as it's usually a sign of irritation. These pads were super gentle on my reactive skin, I didn't feel any burn or sting and I saw results really quickly! Talk about win-win!

My skin looks much clearer than it has in a long time, and I can barely see the pores on my cheeks and forehead! Prior to using these pads, the pores on my forehead and cheeks looked like craters on my face! It was pretty unsightly. It made me look older and it looked as if there was dirt in my pores although my skin was clean. I wasn't sure what to do about these unsightly pores, to be honest, so I'm certainly glad that these pads came into my life! I also had a couple of blemishes from a sunscreen that I was trying out and these pads cleared up those blemishes as well. I still have hyperpigmentation thanks to years of frying my skin in the sun, but I think it will take some laser treatments to get rid of that completely.

Another benefit is that because the acids in these pads exfoliate the skin, it allows our other skincare products to do their job even better as they can penetrate the skin better and more easily.

My skin is far from perfect but I'm happy to have found another effective product that helps me make my 49-year-old skin look the best that it can. I will definitely be making these pads a regular part of my skincare routine and I'm happy that they are so affordable! 💗

Awkward No Makeup Selfie

The Glycolic Night Pads Extreme retail for $14.95 and are available at Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharma Prix across Canada.

How To Get Big Lashes | Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara

Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara

I had heard a few people talk about Essence's Lash Princess Mascara and at only $4.99 CAD, I obviously had to try it out for myself. Well, I can say that the hype is real. Actually, even better than what I had been hearing. I heard that it's a good mascara but I love it so much that it's now become my favourite mascara of all times! That's saying a lot!

The wand grips my lashes like no other, it's just fabulous and easy to apply. I get great impact with just one coat. It doesn't flake or smudge at all on me, even with my hooded eyes. And, it's easy to wash off.

I found that the product worked even better during the second week of use.

One Coat Essence Lash Princess Mascara

In the above photo, I am wearing one coat of Essence Lash Princess Mascara, no liner on the top or bottom and no mascara on my bottom lashes. I find if I apply 2 coats I do get more impact but with my hooded eyes wearing too much mascara on my top lashes can weigh them down making them look more hooded and heavy. One coat is easy peasy, so I'm not complaining.

It's not only a fab product but it's affordable, accessible, and cruelty-free! That's pretty tough to beat.

Conclusion: From now on this will be my go-to mascara. Of course, I will always be trying out other new mascaras that come out, especially the affordable and cruelty-free kind, but this is my number one unless something else comes along and tops this. Of course, if that happens I'll be sure to let y'all know!

This mascara retails for only $4.99 (linked here)

Have you tried this mascara? What is your current favourite mascara?

New! Essence Satin Touch Blush in Satin Love | Review with Swatches

I'm a huge fan of Essence cosmetics. They are so affordable, accessible, and they make some pretty awesome products. Not to mention they are cruelty-free!

I have several of their Silky Touch blushes and love them! So, when they came out with some new blushes, you know I had to try at least one.

I picked mine up at Shoppers Drug Mart, and by the time I got there the only shade left was this one in Satin Love (it comes in 3 shades). It's the shade I had in mind anyway. It was only $3.99.

This shade looks like a rosy nude shade in the pan. Applied to my face I get a natural flush of colour as if I worked out or was out in the cold. It's the kind of shade that goes with any makeup look.

I was surprised when I came home and got to swatching and realized that I have nothing like it in my collection. That's always a great thing when you have a rather large makeup collection. 😊

The shade almost morphs itself. At times it looks rosy nude and other times it appears peachy nude but either way, it will end up going with whatever makeup look you choose. I love that!

This blush is very pigmented, you really need a light hand if you have fair skin. I'm sure it would look just beautiful on medium to darker skin tones as well as it is so pigmented. I didn't realize how dark it is until I compared it to my other blushes at home.

I find that I can use this as a sort of blush/bronzer too. I think it's going to look even better on me when I have a tan.

It's also very long-lasting. It stays on until I wash my makeup off at the end of the day! Pretty incredible for only $3.99. It acts like a high-end blush in my opinion.

This product is another winner from Essence (linked here)  Now I'm curious about the other shades!

Have you tried any of these new Satin Touch Blushes?! If so, which one?

Beauty on a Budget: Equate Makeup Removing Towelettes/ Wipes #review

Okay, so where have I been? Or, how come no one ever told me about these? Or, are they brand new?

I was in the market for some new makeup removing/ cleansing wipes. I normally buy the big box of Kirkland wipes at Costco or stock up on Balea wipes when Shoppers Drug Mart has them on sale.

I was at a Walmart in a different town just picking up a few necessities and of course, I had to breeze by the beauty section. And, there were racks and racks of Equate brand wipes. They were in giant boxes for $14, so I had to check them out.

Inside you get 4 full-size packs of wipes, each contains 60 wipes. In total, you get 240 wipes for $14!

This works out to .058 cents per wipe. Talk about savings!

They are made with chamomile, vitamin E, & Triple Tea Complex.

I find them gentle yet effective. Just as good as any other makeup removing wipe that I have tried! They don't irritate my skin or cause breakouts on my very reactive skin. I was leery because of the price but they proved me wrong.

They aren't too thin or too small and they are saturated sufficiently. All in all, they take my makeup off just as good as the other wipes I've mentioned.

Anyone who knows me knows that I love my skincare. I spend a lot of money on good quality products, but if I find a place where I can save some money and not sacrifice anything, I'm in!

If you want to save a few bucks (I mean, who doesn't!? It means you can buy more clothes! hehe), give these beauties a try.

What great bargains have you found lately? Please share in the comments.

Mini Beauty Haul, New Products! NYC, Wet n Wild, Quo Contessa (LE) Palette #makeup

HAUL!!

I love finding some new, budget friendly beauty products to try out! I wanted to share my new beauty finds with you. I thought some of you may be interested since they are all fairly new to the market and really budget friendly!

Shown above:

NYC CityPROOF Twistable Perfecting Lip Primer/ Quo Face Palette in "Contessa"/ Wet n Wild's new Wild Shine Nail Polish in Dreamy Poppy/ Wet n Wild's new Lipstick in 501C "A Short Affair"

NYC City Proof Twistable Perfecting Lip Primer- as far as I know this is a totally new products and I'm excited to try it out as I've never owned a lip primer before, and I love the newer crayon style lip products. I'm hoping it will help me wear some of my more unforgiving lipsticks and matte lipsticks that don't get worn since they settle into my lip lines too much. Cost $2.97

Quo Face Palette in "Contessa"- Includes full-size blush, bronzer and highlight. There was another palette with different shades but this is the one I was attracted to the most, although I admit that I was tempted to get both! ;)  I couldn't find any reviews online so I think I'll do a post with some swatches and a first impression. This was part of Shoppers Drug Mart's spring Limited Edition (LE) collection. My Shoppers had it on sale for $10 from $20, and I had enough points in my Optimum account so I ended up getting it for free!! Gotta love Shoppers Drug Mart's Optimum program!

Wet n Wild's new Lipstick in 501C "A Short Affair," This is a new formula in new packaging. This looked to be the lightest colour in the collection. I would say it's a neutral to cool tone light baby pink with a sheen (no glitter.) I quite like it so far! I have tested 2 of the new lipstick formulas and so far they seem to go on quite a bit darker than what you see in the tube. Cost $1.50

Wet n Wild's new Wild Shine Nail Polish
formula in 477C "Dreamy Poppy." Note: This colour is not new but this is a newer formula that is supposed to last much longer than the previous formula. I never owned this colour. It looks like a gorgeous deep coral for the summer and would look great with a tan. Unfortunately, the  handle is broken on the bottle that I got so I have to go and exchange it. Cost $1.50

All in all this little haul cost me a total of around $6! Not bad at all! Granted, I got a great deal on the $20 Quo palette since it was half off and I had enough Shopper`s Optimum points to get it for free.  The cosmetician at Shopper`s Drug Mart said that each store may have the Quo palettes on sale at different times, so check your local Shopper`s if you are interested.. once they go on sale this cheap, I doubt they will last very long!

I hope you enjoyed my little haul and maybe you`ll want to check out a few of these for yourself.

Have you come across any new products or great deals lately, I would love to hear about them!

Xo Amy

Cruelty Free, Affordable Lipstick Dupe! #Review

I'm always on the lookout for cruelty-free, affordable dupes in makeup, skincare, hair care, really in anything!  My go to lip colour is usually a nude, nude-pink or something along that line. And, quite by accident I found a dupe in a nude-pink shade that I adore!

Here they are side by side:

Pictured on the left is the cruelty-free dupe, which is Essence Long-lasting Lipstick in Nude Love (11). On the right we have CoverGirl's Lip Perfection Lipstick in Honeyed (258):

Here are the swatches on the back of my hand. As you can see they are quite nude in colour.  The swatch pictured on top is the one by Essence, it is slightly rosier than CoverGirl's (pictured below.) Neither are matte, they both have a similar sheen.

As a test, I wore one on my top lip and the other on the bottom and I could not see a difference at all. The feel on the lips was similar, CoverGirl's may have felt slightly more drying.  They also wore for the same amount of time on my lips, I did not find either of them long-lasting. They both wore like a typical lipstick (IMO). They would need to be re-applied, which I really don't mind- these are the kind of colours I can kind of "slap-on-and-go." Also, the Essence lipstick lacks that infamous CoverGirl scent that many are not a fan of.

The Essence Long Lasting Lipstick is only $2.99 and can be found at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada. (And this colour "nude love" goes quite nicely with many of the Essence creamy lip liners that are only $1.49 each. I often wear this lipstick with their liner in "nude"- Gorg!)

The CoverGirl lipstick retails for approx. $8.99

I would love to hear if you have any cruelty-free affordable dupes!
