$6 Dupe for Marc Jacobs Shameless Youthful-Look Longwear Foundation!

Sometimes I wonder if I'm missing out as I mostly use very inexpensive makeup products. So I wonder, would I look better if I used high-end products instead?! πŸ€” Then I find some fabulous, inexpensive dupes to some high end products and realize that I don't have to spend a lot to get the look for less!

The love for dupes keeps growing and growing because of the sharpness and affordability they bring to the table. I recently came across a Goyard dupe that was absolutely identical to the original.

And then, I also stumbled upon Marc Jacobs Shameless Youthful Look Longwear Foundation at my local Marshall's and it was on clearance for only $7 (Retail approx. $60 for 32ml). The shade I found "light R250" looked like the perfect shade for my skintone, so of course I couldn't leave it at the store!

Note: It was not expired when I purchased it back around March

Marc Jacobs Shameless foundation IS perfect for my dehydrated and aging skin, and the shade "light R250" was a pretty darn good match for my light- medium skintone with neutral undertones. It's available in 29 shade options at this time.

It blends so easily into my skin and is not cakey at all. It's actually quite hydrating and has light-medium coverage with a skin-like finish. This is right up my alley in terms of a base for my face. I've never liked heavy or full coverage foundations. This one has just enough coverage and makes my skin look so healthy by adding a bit of colour, hydration, and dew!

Months later, I stumbled across Elf Cosmetics BB Cream for only $6 (28.5ml), (which I've also spotted at Marshall's). It too sounded like the type of face product that I like to wear on the daily. It claims to minimize fine lines and also contains hydrating ingredients like vitamin E, jojoba, aloe, and cucumber. I purchased the colour Buff, which is a tad darker than my skintone but it blends into my skin no problem and doesn't appear too dark once blended.

As soon as I applied Elf's BB Cream, it immediately reminded me of the Marc Jacobs one I had been using. So, I decided to test them out by applying each one to half of my face and wore them for an entire day just to see how alike they really are.

I am happy to report that the texture, formula, and finish are the same for both products! Although, ELF's BB Cream might have a tad bit more coverage. They are both super hydrating and give my skin the same look. And, despite the colour difference in the swatches, once I blend them into my skin, I don't see any difference. Hence why I was able to wear both at the same time with each one on one side of my face.

Elf's BB Cream has SPF 20 and has only 3.5ml less product than Marc Jacobs. While Marc Jacobs has SPF 25. Marc Jacobs BB cream also has "Flashback-free innovation." I didn't see any flashback claims with Elf's.

Other than those minor differences, these products perform the same for me. Both are super easy to blend with light-medium coverage. Both are very hydrating leaving the skin with a youthful look.

At the time of this writing,  Marc Jacobs comes in 29 shade options, while ELF'S comes in only 7, which may make ELF'S a deal breaker if you can't find your shade.

Left: ELF in Buff / Right: Marc Jacobs R250

Despite the shade difference in the swatches, they look the same on my skin once blended.

These are a definite dupe, in my opinion, and I find no reason to spend more. In this case, I don't have to spend a lot of money to get the look of a high end product for much less! Don't get me wrong, there are still times where I prefer something high end, like Charlotte Tilbury's Pillow Talk blush... nothing has compared to that one yet!

Note: You may want to spend more if the flashback technology with Marc Jacob's product is important to your for a special occasion.

You can't go wrong with either one of these as they are both fabulous products, especially for dry or dehydrated, or aging skin!

Provoke Touch of Silver Strengthening Purple Shampoo + Conditioner Review

The ILLUMINEX range from PRO:VOKE Touch of Silver has a new collection of sulphate-free, vegan colour enhancing shampoos and conditioners for brighter blonde hair!

I thought I'd tried pretty much every purple shampoo and conditioner but somehow I hadn't come across or tried Provoke's Touch of Silver strengthening shampoo and conditioner, and I'm pretty mad about it because I've been missing out!!! 😫 And, I just learned that they are the original purple shampoo, so I guess I've been living under a rock!

These products promise to completely remove brassy tones in just one wash = True! PLUS, they also strengthen the hair by repairing damaged hair bonds! 😍😍😍

My hair is bleached, damaged, and had become so brassy! After just one wash, my hair looks, feels, and smells amazing! Transformed, like i went to the salon! My hair is clean and looks and feels much healthier πŸ‘±‍♀️ All it took was 8 minutes to banish my brass: 5 min for shampoo,  and 3 min for conditioner. And, my damaged, brittle hair is left feeling better than ever! No joke! πŸ₯°

Both products are also sulphate free, silicone-free, vegan, and not tested on animals. πŸ™Œ

It's recommended to use these every other wash or once a week, but I've been using them back to back for the last 3 washes because I just can't get enough!

I'm 100% converted to these beauties and will be purchasing them instead of other purple shampoos and conditioners in the future πŸ’œ

Have you tried these? If you have blonde, platinum,  grey or white hair that gets brassy, and/or needs some repair, I highly recommend! These would make a fabulous stocking stuffer, too! 🎁

Check them out at www.farleyco.ca

Available at Rexall Pharma Plus, London Drugs,  pharmasave, and Lawton Drugs.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Eyeshadow Palette Collection and Declutter Fall 2020

Today's post is my eyeshadow collection and a mini declutter.  I've been trying to reorganize my makeup since I purchased this fabulous new makeup storage case (post all about it linked here).

My eyeshadow collection doesn't fit (yet) inside the storage bag because I have a larger than "normal" amount of makeup. I wanted to fit all of my eyeshadows into a separate bag that I could easily access when doing my makeup so I had to downsize a bit.

I started out by laying everything on the floor and picking out my go-to palettes and favourites.  Then I looked to see where I had a lot of similar colours and decided to part with 3 palettes that I never reach for and I have most of the colours that are in those palettes in other ones that I do reach for.

Above: keep pile

I use all of these palettes on the regular. Most are neutrals and a there are still a few pops of colour. The Doll 10 Pro Eyeshadow 2 is probably my most reached for palette for an everyday eye look. It would be perfect for work or any professional setting, or just everyday.

All of these "keep" palettes work well for my aging and hooded eyes!

The Joe Fresh palette is actually a bronzer / highlight palette but I've always used it as an eyeshadow palette as it works better for me that way and it makes a beautiful eye look!

Let me know if you have any questions about any of these and I'd be happy to answer. :)

Above: declutter pile

There's nothing wrong with any of these palettes. The colours are great but the BH cosmetics and Orzya shadows are a bit too creamy/ heavy and pigmented for my liking. This Wet n Wild palette is kind of meh.

This fabulous Cherry palette missed the keep pile as it doesn't fit inside the makeup bag that is now storing my eyeshadow collection.  I also have a few cream shadows that are not shown as I wasn't decluttering any of them. Luckily,  those also fit inside my eyeshadow makeup bag.

The cream coloured bag shown here now stores all of my eyeshadows except for the Cherry palette that is wedged between my main makeup storage and the eyeshadow storage bag.

Apologies for the lighting and photos being so varied. I'm doing this at nighttime and blogging from my phone as my laptop is πŸ’€.  And, I thought today would be a great day for a fun and simple Eyeshadow collection  / declutter post. 😊

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

New Home Makeup Storage Solution + Travel Bag | Minimalist

Left: old makeup storage / Right: new makeup storage

I've always been big on organizing...Searching for ways to better store my makeup and skincare is actually how I discovered the world of Blogging and Vlogging.

I have been slowly downsizing my makeup collection (and working on other areas of my home) over the years. I went from using a large drawer in my desk to store my makeup to using the pink acrylic organizer shown above. More recently, the acrylic organizer was becoming such an eyesore to me as it sat on my home work desk, so I sought out other solutions for my makeup organization conundrum.

I decided to purchase a large makeup storage/ travel bag that comes with customizable dividers. I did a lot of research as I didn't want anything too big nor too small. The first one I purchased was plain black (shown above). Unfortunately, it came with a defective liner so the dividers wouldn't line up or stay in place. After returning that one, I ended up choosing another one that is the exact same size, just different colour and seller. I think that all of these organizers in this size range are the same size although they each show slight variations listed on Amazon (where I purchased mine).

The actual dimensions of both of the cases I ordered are 9" x 10" x 3.5" measured from the exterior

Although they refer to these cases as "travel cases" it's too big for travel for my liking.

I find that the case is very sturdy on the inside and the outside and has a solid zipper closure. The dividers are pretty fabulous for customizing your case to fit your products. In fact, this case would also be great for storing crafts, essential oils, skincare, photography equipment, sunglasses etc.

The top has pockets meant for makeup brushes but I am storing my eyeliners, lipliners and brow pencils there for now. There is also a side pocket but when I put a small eyeshadow palette inside, I cannot close the case. It would be suitable for thinner products like facial sheet masks.

I guess I'm a bit of a blush junkie as that seems to be the bulk of my makeup. The funny thing is that I don't wear blush as often as I used to (mask anyone?!). I am definitely a bronzer and highlight girl though!

I am able to fit all of my makeup except for my lip product collection as well as my eyeshadow palette collection. But, let's be real, I have too much makeup still!

I know that once I use up some of these products and as some expire, it will definitely be possible to store my entire makeup collection in this organizer

The organizer sits comfortably in my Ikea Alex desk drawer (the deeper drawer).

I'm so happy to have my makeup collection out of site now and the new makeup storage bag is working out perfectly. It sits in my desk drawer as I get ready. I just pop open the lid and everything is in arms reach and organized so well. Getting ready is a breeze now as every makeup item is in its place.

For now, I still have my makeup brushes and small lip collection on my desktop which I barely even notice compared to when I had the big acrylic organizer on my desk. Don't get me wrong, I love that acrylic organizer and it's gone to good use storing my skincare in my bathroom (shown below).

My acrylic organizer has been repurposed and now lives in the bathroom housing skincare and some hair accessories.

Above you can see the dividers in the organizers and some examples of how you can customize the case.

The case would also be great for travel if you need or want to travel with a lot of makeup and or skincare as the case is so sturdy.

I am enjoying this organizer so much that I am definitely thinking of purchasing more for other storage purposes! 😍

This makeup storage case cost me a whopping $20 and it was the best twenty dollars that I've spent in a long while!

Have a great week ahead!

Elf Primer Infused Blush in Always Cheeky Review + Swatches

Elf's Primer Infused Blushes won Allure's 2019 Best of Beauty Award, so for only $6, I had to try it for myself. I also heard a lot of hype over this blush on social media and most were singing the praises of the shade Always Cheeky, so I went with that shade to find out what all the hype is about.

From ELF:

2019 Allure Best of Beauty Award Winner!

This long-wear, matte blush is infused with lock on primer powder to ensure a full day of perfectly placed blush. This blush is easy to blend, perfectly pigmented for ease of application, and grips your cheeks like second skin.

-Available in 7 shades

-Retail $6 for 10 grams

The blush comes in a very large 10-gram pan with basic plastic packaging and does not have a mirror. The shade Always Cheeky appears to be a light peachy shade. I've heard a lot of people mention the "pink" in this shade, however, I do not see pink, personally.

The blush kicks up a lot of powder when I dip my blush brush into it. It's best to tap the excess powder off of the brush before applying for an even application. This shade barely shows up on my light-medium skin tone unless I build up several layers, but then I lose the sheer, natural look as it will become powdery looking. Since I always wear bronzer, it's even less detectable on my skin.

The formula is nice for aging skin as it is mostly matte, sheer, and doesn't accentuate texture or pores thanks to the built-in primer. Lasting time for me is average but then again, because it's so light on my skin tone, it's hard to even detect.

ELF Primer Infused Blush in Always Cheeky in natural daylight

Overall, I like this blush. However, it's lacking that wow factor for me, which could be just because it's just the wrong shade for me. I need something a bit darker and something with a bit of pink or rose to it for my neutral (leaning warm), light-medium skin tone.

I would recommend this blush if you choose the right colour for your skin tone. I think that this shade, Always Cheeky, would suit someone with very fair skin. You can't beat the price at $6 for 10 grams!

*** UPDATE: I ended up liking this blush more and it showed up nicely when I switched to a much more dense makeup brush. It's still subtle,  but shows up, even with my bronzer on and I'm liking it. Very natural but present 😊

ELF Cosmetics is Cruelty-Free! 🐰

Elf Primer Infused Blush $6 for 10 grams.

Have you tried this blush? Do you love it or not so much?

Have a great week ahead!

Affordable Shiseido Facial Cotton Pad Dupe | Cheaper Than the Dollar Store!

Love affordable dupes like I do? I found a fabulous and super affordable dupe for Shiseido's facial cotton pads, AND they are even cheaper than the dollar store ones! 😍

I had been using Shiseido cotton pads for applying my skincare because they are so thin that they don't absorb/hold onto a lot of products like thicker cotton pads can.

I stumbled upon cotton pads at my local Miniso (Korean) store and they looked like they might have been just like the Shiseido ones, so I picked up a pack to test them out.

•Miniso's Facial Cotton comes in a pack of 240 for $2.95 CAD.

•Shiseido Facial Cotton comes in a pack of 165 for $11.

•Both the Shiseido and the Miniso are super thin, square in shape, very soft, and neither shed any of the cotton onto your face. I think the Shiseido pads might be a bit smaller but I have run out of them so I cannot compare, either way, they are close enough in size.

Turns out that we have a fabulous and super affordable dupe here! Saving over $9 per pack with taxes! That almost covers a basic Netflix subscription πŸ‘Œ.

The Miniso are even cheaper than buying facial cotton at the dollar store, where they seem to be about 80 pads for $1+ these days. So I'll be stocking up and sticking with the Miniso brand! πŸ₯°

i love that the Miniso brand comes with 3 separately sealed packages inside!

Miniso cotton facial pads are so thin that pretty much all of your product goes on your face rather than being absorbed by the cotton! Saving you not only on the cotton pads, but your valuable skincare!

I only wish I had discovered the Miniso Facial Cotton sooner! I definitely need to check out more Korean brands for my skincare needs.  😊

Check out Miniso at Miniso.ca

Have you tried these yet!? If not, I hope you have a Miniso or other similar store near you to try these out and save yourself tons of money, in the long run, πŸ’Έ πŸ€‘ πŸ’²

Have a fabulous rest of the week! πŸ€—

How to treat Mascne / Acne Naturally with Neem Oil

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! πŸ”

Today, I wanted to share what I'm using to combat my #mascne 😷

This little bottle of stinky Neem oil is magic for pimples, skin health, and anti aging in general. I used it years ago, then stopped after running out and forgot about it. After breaking out recently from wearing masks, I recalled this oil and immediately got a new bottle and after 2 nights, it's already clearing everything up. I just add a few drops to my moisturizer or apply directly to my skin. πŸ’§ I have tried several brands of Neem Oil and find that Theraneem is the best. It was also recommended to me by a reputable esthetician.

Neem oil is antibacterial and antifungal.  It's great for wrinkles, building collagen, treating acne, reducing scars and so much more. It can also repell mosquitoes! It has so many more uses, too many to list here. πŸ“ƒ

If you want something to clear up your acne that won't wreck your skin, but will actually improve it in many ways, definitely give this a try. It's inexpensive too. The smell is hard to describe but it definitely takes getting used to!

Some of neem oils beneficial ingredients:
  • Fatty acids (EFA)
  • limonoids
  • vitamin E
  • triglycerides
  • antioxidants
  • calcium
Neem oil can treat many skin conditions, including psoriasis and eczema.

Learn more about Neem oil here:  Neem oil benefits

Purchase Theraneem Neem Oil here:  Theraneem Neem Oil

Let me know if you try it out πŸ’–

Huge Empties | Makeup, Beauty, Haircare, Health

Happy September, everyone!

I'm so behind with my empties posts that my empties bin has been overflowing and I even have some duplicates 😁

In the interest of time, I will be sharing VERY brief reviews of the products, and links to products will be shared in the product heading for items that I am able to find online. (Note that prices shown are subject to change).

HAIRCARE

I love this mask as well as the same brands' hair oil. This mask leaves my dry and frizzy hair softer and more hydrated. Repurchase- Yes

I enjoy products like this as they multi-task by adding heat protection, frizz control, and hydration. I did like this product but I didn't notice anything extra special about it. It worked well enough but just as well as similar products that are more accessible and less expensive. Repurchase- For the right price

This was a trial size and I got about 3 uses from it. I really enjoyed it! It's one of the few Briogeo products that I've tried that really did work for my hair type and one of the few deep conditioners that really improves the look and feel of my hair. It reduced frizz and really helped to deep conditioned my hair. Repurchase- Maybe (currently trialling It's a 10 deep conditioner and I may like that one a bit better)

SKINCARE/ MAKEUP

This is a great product for the price. It left my skin feeling smooth and hydrated but I didn't use it consistently enough to be able to notice any long term changes. Repurchase- Possibly, but I will probably go back to Paula's Choice and/ or try The Ordinary if I am in the market for a Vitamin C serum again

Loved this product! It was deeply hydrating and soothed my dehydrated skin so well! It's one of those products that I just wanted to bathe in! It's also all-natural and hand made in small batches. Repurchase- Yes

This is a great foundation with a skin-like finish. It blends really easily and provides medium coverage. The shade Y245 was almost perfect, just slightly off for my skin tone but I was still able to use it. Unfortunately, it expired before I could finish it completely. Repurchase- Not for everyday use, I found that the Covergirl Foundation below is very similar (and much cheaper), so I would use that one for everyday use. I may purchase this one in the right shade for a special occasion though

LOVE this foundation! Works like high end, in my opinion, so I don't see a reason to pay more at this time, except maybe for a special occasion. I found this to be very similar to the Makeup Forever Foundation listed above. The shade Classic Ivory was perfect for my skin tone! Repurchase- Yes

Great formula but I wasn't in love with this shade. This shade is better for contouring than an all-over bronze glow, in my opinion, and I'm not big on contouring. I now have the next shade darker (Deep Bronzer) which has a bit of a red tone to it. I find that makes it work well on my skin tone for an all-over bronzed up look. Repurchase- Yes, in the darker shade, Deep Bronzer

This is one of my favourite neutral shades as it's very unique and different from all my other nude shades, it's quite cool-toned. Unfortunately, the formula is so thick and has become too thick to work with now. Repurchase- Probably not unless the formula changes and becomes easier to work with

I've only used a few all-natural mascaras and this is my favourite so far. It's one of those mascaras that gets better and better with time. It didn't flake or smudge but didn't give my lashes as much oomph as I would like. Repurchase- No

Although this eyeliner initially glided on so easily, it dried out in the tube so fast! Even sharpening it doesn't bring it back to life. I will stick with my Essence Long Lasting Eye Pencils- they glide on so smoothly, don't budge, are dirt cheap, and haven't dried out on me! Repurchase- No

HEALTH

I take these along with the same brands' Thyroid Formula, ThyroSense which I am able to take along with my Armour Thyroid medication. I love the adrenal supporting ingredients and I find they help me deal with stress and help with my sleep to some extent. Repurchase- Yes!

I finished up 2 bottles of these sleep gummies. I always have them on my bedside table. One gummy has 1.5mg of melatonin + 100mg of L-Theanine. I prefer low doses of melatonin as higher doses are more likely to make me wake up prematurely. Unfortunately, these are out of stock / seasonal and won't be restocked on iHerb (where I purchase mine) until October. I have tried Vitafusion Sleep Well but it has too much melatonin for me and disrupts my sleep. Repurchase- Yes!

I alternate these with Nature's Bounty Melatonin Gummies listed above. I find that I get better results when I rotate vs. using the same product all the time. This is also a low 1.5mg of melatonin per tablet and includes 5HTP and L-Theanine. I break these in half at times for an even lower dose. I often take another dose if I wake too early and it helps me fall asleep again. These are little powerhouses! Repurchase- Always!

Health & Wisdom Magnesium Oil 16 oz/ $24
This bottle was huge! Magnesium oil has many uses. I mainly use it after my bath or shower and put some on the backs of my knees where it's absorbed more easily. I will definitely repurchase but probably a smaller bottle next time, it took me so long to use it up. If you want to use to make bath products and use for a lot of bath soaks etc., the big size may be a good choice for you. Note: Magnesium products are not to be used by those with kidney/ renal failure. by  Repurchase- Yes

D3 Gummies 1000 IU- 90 gummies
I take D3 every day. I think it's one of the most important vitamins that people can take for overall health. It has so many functions in the body! Just check with your Dr. before beginning any new supplements. I'm not too picky about my D vitamins as long as it's in the D3 form. I am currently taking another brands' D3 gummy because it was on sale. I had my D3 blood levels checked and they are normal since taking these. Repurchase- Yes

These are hands down my favourite multivitamin! I've tried many multivitamins and when I take these one's, I notice a difference in how I feel and my sleep improves too. I only take 2 per day vs the 4 recommended. Note that there are many different formulas in this line, the one with 120 veg caps is the formula that I'm currently using and loving! Repurchase- YES!

I've been taking these probiotics for over 20 years for my IBS. What a difference they make. I've run out and definitely need to repurchase. They are pricey but they are also the best ones that I've ever used. My maintenance dose is only 1 per day. Repurchase- Yes!

Now Foods Relora 300mg - 120 caps / $20
I had luck with these in the past for my sleep issues so I decided to give them another try. They are supposed to help with stress and cortisol and prevent waking up prematurely. Unfortunately, I didn't have luck with it this time. They are worth a try if you are under stress as they may work for you as they did for me in the past. Repurchase- May try again

Now Foods Nattokinase 100mg- 120 veg caps/ $26
I've read a lot of literature singing the praises of Nattokinase for cardiovascular health and it's actions as a natural and safe blood thinner. I am currently giving 30mg a day to my cat for his heart disease. After a lot of research, we chose this as his blood thinner over conventional medications and so far so good. πŸ™ AOR also makes a great one! A Holistic Vet agreed to our cat taking this and gave us the recommended dose for him. Repurchase- Yes!

Jarrow Max DHA Fish Oil- 180 soft gels/ $20
This has been my favourite fish oil for years! DHA supports brain and eye health. It has a whole host of other health and beauty benefits as well, too many to count! I may try other fish oils but will always return to this brand and formula. Note that I only take one per day. Repurchase- Yes

I LOVE this Stevia! It is not bitter at all and easy to dispense by the drop. You can use it in coffee, tea, baking, basically anywhere that you want to sweeten something without the calories and sugar! This comes in so many flavours now. I use the English Toffee one on the daily to sweeten my iced coffee, it gives it that extra flavour that makes it like a store-bought brew. 🍡

I hope you found this empties post helpful! I love to hear what people finished up and what their final thoughts are on products. Hopefully, I won't wait so long before my next empties post goes up!

Have a blessed day or night!
