Dollar Store Jewelry Organizing Hack #DIY (Frugal Friday on Wednesday)

Like many of you I love to get organized. I found a great way to organize much of my jewelry collection and I thought many of you might be interested. I found this tackle box at the Dollar store and it has workout out so well! I was able to store everything from earrings to necklaces and bracelets and rings, it even holds statement pieces! Some of the compartments have little dividers that you can move around to adjust the size of the compartment. It also has a lid that is attached so you can close it up and keep everything safe and dust-free inside. When organized in this tackle box everything stays tangle free, which is such a bonus! It's not too pretty to look at so I have it stored in my top dresser drawer. All I have to do is open the drawer and pop open the lid and I can see all of my choices. Well, most of them, as I do have some more jewelry that I keep in a jewelry box and some other necklaces on a tower on my dresser. I do LOVE my jewelry!

It's come in so handy. I can imaging using this tackle box for many other organization DIY's. You could organize your sewing supplies, makeup (single eye shadows would be great), as well as other craft supplies.

With the lid closed:

I have things further organized by colour and style as you can see below.

ps. I found this in the tool section of my dollar store as it was meant for fishing tackle or storing screws and nails etc. It also came in various sizes. So go check out your dollar store! I'd love to hear if you try this out or if you have any frugal DIY's for getting organized.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Holidays & Happy New Year- 2016!

Just a little note to wish all of my readers Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to you and your families! Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah or something else, I hope you take this time to enjoy yourself and find the time for a lot of R & R as well. Whether you are surrounded by loved one's or not, I hope you all find a way to enjoy the season.

When it comes to  a Christmas wish list, I have the same one every year: Health and Happiness. That's all that really matters.

I know the Holidays can be a really difficult time for a lot of people, just know that if that is the case for you, you are not alone and I will be thinking of you and wishing you all the best. Just do whatever it is that you enjoy. I definitely blaze my own trail at this time of year and all year for that matter. I don't feel the need to "keep up with the Joneses" so to speak, I try to do what I enjoy. We can create new traditions and/or follow old one's, it's all up to you.  And, then comes the new year right around the corner. I think the new year always brings with it the feelings of the chance for a new start. Write down what you want to accomplish in the new year, even if it's just one thing. It's also a good time to reflect on the year past and learn from any mistakes, and then leave them behind us.

This is Health and Beauty Girl's first Christmas. I started this blog in the Spring of 2015 with the hopes of sharing and connecting with others on all the things I am passionate about; from health to beauty, and beyond. I don't know what the new year holds for me or Health and Beauty Girl, only time will tell. That's part of the fun sometimes, not knowing what's ahead. It can be scary at times but also exciting, wondering what the future holds.

One of my wishes for the new year is that people can be little kinder and less judgmental of one another, it's hard enough out there these days! I feel very lucky, I've met a lot of really great people through this blog and I'm very grateful for that.

I wish all of you a year full of health and happiness!

See you next year!

Paula's Choice Lip & Body Treatment Balm #Review

I have a tiny haul to share with you. I wanted to get this out there while the Free shipping and sale are still going on. Right now, Paula's Choice is having 15% off best sellers (the product in this haul was included) + free shipping on everything, and if you spend $65 or more they will send you a free eye shadow palette (code: GLAM15).  Oh, and you always get to choose up to 3 free samples with your order (mine are pictured above). If you want to score this at a real bargain, right now you will get 15% off plus free shipping, and if you've never ordered from PC before just add something else to bring your total to $15 and you can use a referral code to get $10 off your order, making this cost about $5 which will also include whatever other item you chose to add!  # for great deals.

Note: If you miss this sale, never fear, Paula's Choice is always having new sales as you will see in my upcoming haul. You can also sign up for PC emails to find out about the deals as they happen. They will also send you a discount code for your first purchase which you can stack on top of your $10 off!

I've heard so much about Paula's Choice over the last couple of years. I had a $10 off code from a blogger, so I finally bit the bullet and placed an order (that order will be featured in an upcoming haul). But, for now, I wanted to share this little order I placed for their Lip & Body Treatment Balm.

I have horribly dehydrated lips and I pick and bite and peel away at them, it's such a horrible habit that I need to break. I am definitely addicted to lip balms and find myself applying them all day and night. I've used Carmex, Aquaphor (those were the heavy-hitters for me), as well as numerous other balms including organic one's. Despite trying what seemed like everything, I was still looking for my Holy Grail lip balm.

The Balm (pictured above with cap off) is a solid balm and quite hard in consistency. It's also a generous size at 0.5oz. Once you warm the product up with your finger it applies easily and is not too thick, but it's very emollient and hydrates nicely. I've had this product for a week and I definitely would say that this product is the best lip balm/ treatment I have used so far. It is definitely the longest lasting, so I am not applying it every 5 minutes, more like every few hours. Since my lips don't dry out since I've been using this, I've reduced my picking and peeling of my lips. I am hoping that this will help me break that horrible habit for good. Only time will tell though.

As it states, this treatment balm is also intended for use on the body. It could be used on dry cuticles, elbows, heels, you name it. Because it's contained in a pot where you have to stick your finger in it, I prefer to only use it for my lips. I wish Paula's Choice would put this formula in a stick form. But, I would definitely purchase this again. Even with what I think is a high price tag for a lip balm I think it's worth it and I can tell it's going to last for a really long time.

Here is some info from Paula's Choice website:

This long-lasting, emollient balm offers on-the-spot relief for dry, rough, chapped lips, or anywhere on the body.
  • Eczema
  • Dry/Very Dry Skin
  • Targeted relief for dry lips, cuticles, feet, hands
  • Creates a protective barrier allowing skin to heal
  • Balm is substantial, but not overly thick or waxy
Product Ingredients: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Petrolatum (emollients), Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax (thickener), Lanolin, C10-30 Cholesterol/Lanosterol Esters (emollients), Beeswax (Cera Alba), Ozokerite, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, CoperniciaCerifera (Carnauba) Wax (thickeners), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Jojoba Esters, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil (plant emollients/oils), Bisabolol (soothing agent), Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (stabilized vitamin C/antioxidant), Tocopheryl Acetate (vitamin E/antioxidant), Trihydroxystearin, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene (thickeners).

Overall, I give this product 2 thumbs up! I can't wait to get my other order from Paula's Choice and see how those products fare. After this experience, I'm having high hopes for them. I will definitely share my haul with you when my order arrives, it's much bigger than this, so stay tuned. ;)

I now have a referral link that I can share with my readers that will give you $10 off your first order (minimum $15 purchase). Once you've placed an order, you will receive your own referral link that you can share as well.

Click here if you would like to use the $10 off referral link.   (note: this is an affiliate link and we will both benefit).  Of course if you'd rather find another referral link I understand, but if you use my link it is definitely most appreciated.

Paula's Choice is also Cruelty-Free which is hugely appreciated by me!!

Have you used Paula's Choice? If so, what are your favourite products?

Olay Total Effects 7 in One Anti-Aging Moisturizer #BzzAgent #Review

I recently received a sample of the new Olay Total Effects, 7 in One Anti-Aging Moisturizer in the new trial size that will be available in stores in February. This was sent to me free from Olay via BzzAgent.

My sample thanks to BzzAgent and Olay!

I was really excited to try Olay again. I used to use Olay exclusively in my 20's and 30's, and everyone would ask what I used on my skin. And, back then, people always guessed that I was about 10 years younger than I was (miss those days).

After I hit my 40's, I guess I decided I needed to spend more on skincare to battle the signs of aging. Ever since I have been experimenting with different products on the regular. Trying to find "the one" and spending a fortune!

This is the first time I've gone back to Olay since my 30's. I've been using this sample for a couple of weeks now, and my skin couldn't be happier! Olay has always agreed with my skin; it's never caused any irritations or breakouts for me as some products can. I love the light scent of the product as well as the consistency. It leaves my skin super-hydrated without being greasy at all. It sinks right into the skin and keeps me hydrated all day.

My skin is looking great overall and I especially notice that my aging neck isn't looking so aged! I will definitely be purchasing the full size of this product to give it more time to work, and I'm excited to see what happens to my skin after using the product for more time.

I know this product has some great ingredients for anti-aging, like Niacinamide, Pro-Vitamin B5, Vitamin E and more. The ingredients list is pictured below. Some of the ingredients are in Latin, for example, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract is Green Tea Extract which is also fabulous for anti-aging!

My lesson here is two-fold: 1. Sometimes you don't have to spend a fortune on good products 2. Sometimes if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Do you use Olay? If so, what products do you use and what has been your experience?

DIY- How to Revive Dried up Cream Eyeshadow/ Maybelline Color Tattoo

How many of us have cream eye shadows that we love, only for them to dry up and become unusable after a few months. This Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze is one of my favourite, everyday, go-to easy eye looks.  But, after a while it just dried up so I couldn't even use it.

I refused to throw it out with so much product left- what a waste that would be! Then, I came across a YouTube video by MrsTheDoll where she showed how to revive a dried up Color Tattoo. Full credit goes to her for this idea!

Never mind microwaving your Color Tattoos (as many have recommended), that just cooks your product and in the end leaves it even drier that what you started with.

Here is a simple method, that makes a lot of sense. I've tried it and I'm here to share it with Y'all because it works!

What you will need:
-Stir stick (a stiff toothpick or something skinny but strong to stir with)
-Your dried up shadow

Glycerin is an inexpensive product. The 4oz bottle pictured above is under $5 on and you can find glycerin at most drugstores or health food stores. Glycerin is a moisturizer and a powerful hydrator, and if you look at the labels on your moisturizing products (skincare etc.) glycerin is probably in most of them.

Getting started: Just Add one small drop of glycerin (I happen to have vegetable glycerin) to your dried up eye shadow pot. Find something to stir it with, something small like pictured above. A stiff, wooden toothpick may do the job. Stir well.

It wont look pretty at this point but you can smooth it all out after. I haven't yet, but it's probably better to press it down to prevent air getting in more and drying it out again. I'll be pressing mine tomorrow, I just couldn't wait to share this with you.

I let mine sit, lid on tight as always and stored face down until the next day. Here it is a few days later, revived and like new again. It actually feels even better than when it was new, in my opinion. It's a little more hydrating for my crinkly lids.

I am so glad I found a solution for my dried up cream shadows. If it dries up again, I'll just add another drop of glycerin. Now I'm thinking this would probably work for other dried up cream products as well.

Let me know if you try this and how it worked for you.

Makeup, Beauty, Skincare, and Health: Empties for October/November with Reviews!

Better late than never. I never posted my empties for October so this post will include products I finished up in October and November. As you can see there is quite a bit so I will try to be brief with my reviews on each item. As always, I will provide links to products where possible.

It's a dreary, overcast day here, so hopefully, the pictures aren't too bad.

If you'd like to see some more empties, my last empties post was in September and it can be viewed here .

  • Quo Complexion Highlighter- I've had this cream highlighter since around 2009 or earlier. I never use it and it's expired, it goes on patchy now. With the strobing trend going on now this would be a great product for them to re-introduce, it was a limited edition product.
  • Sonia Kashuk Undetectable Cream Bronzer (Warm Tan)- This is a great cream bronzer. I heard it's a dupe for Chanel's cream bronzer. If I needed another cream bronzer I would definitely purchase this again. (note: this is part of my #6byChristmas / #projectempties on IG)
  • Covergirl Lashblast Fusion- I received this from BzzAgent free for trial purposes. Here is my full review on it. It built upon itself really well and was easy to remove.
  • Essence Lash & Brow Gel- I like this product in a pinch and the price is right, but I find the formula is too wet, so I have gone back to Elf's clear brow gel.
  • Jordana Fabuliner in black- This product really lived up to the hype. It is super pigmented and with the felt tip it gave me great control. It lasted forever and it's super inexpensive too at $1.99.

  • Retin A 0.04% by prescription- I've been using this Retin A cream for well over a year (maybe 2) and this formula never caused any irritation to my skin at all. Retin A is supposed to be one of the best Anti-agers out there, so I will continue to use it.
  • Reviva Labs Elastin & Collagen Toner- Talk about soothing. I love this stuff and will always go back to it. It is Holy Grail for sure! I buy it on where it's much cheaper than my local stores.
  • Up & Up Waterproof Makeup Remover- I bought this on clearance during Target's liquidation event before they left Canada. Thank goodness I only bought one. This burned my eyes so badly that I had to check and see if I used my nail polish remover by accident! I poured it out...Buh-bye!
  • Olay Refreshing Citrus Scrub Cleanser- I keep this scrub in my shower and only use it on the days that I wash my hair, so it lasts me quite a while. It's very gentle but you have to remove your eye makeup separately. I buy this in a 2 pack for around $7 CAD when the warehouse sale comes around. I would not purchase it at drugstore prices. They didn't have it in stock at the last warehouse sale, so I purchased one by Simple Skincare that is new to me.
  • Martina Gebhardt Black Mud Cream- This is Holy grail for me. I don't think I will ever be without it. I only use it at night, over a serum and layered with an oil on top of that. This completely got rid of my adult acne and help with dehydration (which is apparently why I was getting acne). I purchase this from Pure and Simple Spa and I always wait for a good sale and stock up!
  • Michael Todd KNU (New You) Cream- I purchased this years ago on Groupon for a steal! If I could get it at a good enough price I would buy it again.

  • Nexxus Pro-Mend Targeted Leave-in Treatment- I would not purchase this again. It was fine at first but nothing special either. It wasn't until I finally finished it and moved onto my Argan Oil (review here), that I realized my hair was breaking off way too much. Once it was gone and I switched to my Argan Oil, my hair fall out and breakage lessened dramatically. I did not read anywhere on the bottle a warning to only use occasionally.
  • Now Foods Xyli.White Neem & Tea Tree Toothpaste- If you like to avoid fluoride in your toothpaste as well as parabens, gluten, and SLS, I cannot recommend this enough. Even if you are not avoiding those things I highly recommend this line of toothpaste. There are many flavours to choose from and some without the Neem. My dental checkups improved since I switched to this line. I buy mine on iHerb as it's much cheaper than my local store.
  • Aquaphor Healing Ointment- This is fabulous for chapped lips in the colder months! Not so natural, but when my lips are in bad shape, this is my go to, this and Carmex.

When it comes to supplements, we are all so different. I will share my experiences and hope that it helps someone. As always, consult with your health care specialist before starting any new supplements as many herbs and supplements can interact with medications etc.
  • FemMED Hormonal Balance- This is a great combination of herbs for female hormone balance. I buy it whenever I see a good sale on it. Otherwise, I will stick with the much more affordable single herb Vitex.  (Note: to my knowledge, the Hormone balance and Vitex are herbs to be used before the menopause phase, not after).
  • Nature's Answer Rhodiola- This is an adaptogen, meaning it helps us adapt to stress (you can read more about it here). I will never be without this herb, it's the only thing that stopped me from waking up at 5am every day! Although, it doesn't stop my cat from waking me! (note: I only take 1 per day vs. the 2 it recommends on the bottle).
  • Melissa (Lemon Balm)- Lemon Balm is soothing on the nervous system. I usually drink Lemon Balm tea at night to help with sleep. The only problem with that is it causes me to wake up to use the washroom. To combat that issue, I bought these capsules as it's more convenient and resolves the trips to the washroom. I still prefer the tea, but keeping a bottle of this by my bedside is great in case my cat does wake me up in the wee hours, I can just pop one or two of these babies and usually go back to sleep.
  • iHerb Vitamin D- I got these free with an iHerb order. At 5,000 IU per softgel, I would only take this dose on occasion. I prefer to take Now Foods with 2000 IU, especially in the winter time when I'm not getting out in the sunshine. Now, if only I could remember to take them every day.
  • Now Foods Gr8-Dophilus- I liked this probiotic but I prefer Garden of Life's Primal Defense. It's more expensive but it's worth it for me, I buy the big-daddy size to make it more affordable. I found the Now Foods Gr8-Dophilus was better for female issues, whereas the Primal Defense was better for stomach or bowel issues. I have had IBS (Irritable Bowl Syndrome) my whole life. I wrote a whole blog post on my experience with IBS and how Primal Defense probiotics have helped me.
  • Now Foods Multi One- This was another deal on iHerb. I didn't notice anything special while taking these. I would not purchase at full price.
  • Healthy Origins CoQ10 100mg- This is another supplement that I will never go without. I have heart issues and this helps keep them under control. Even if you don't have heart issues this is a really important supplement, especially if over 40. As we age, we produce less and less Q10 and the cells in our body require it, it is also an anti-oxidant. I purchase the less expensive form called Ubiquinone. Many say the best form on the market right now is Ubiquinol, however, in my research, I found out that our stomachs convert the more expensive Ubiquinol to the less expensive Ubiquinone anyways. Still, many prefer to purchase Q10 in the form of Ubiquinol and swear by it. You can find some info on Q10 here: WebMD on Q10
From iHerb's website on Q10:  "Healthy Origins CoQ10 (Ubiquinone) is a naturally occurring substance that facilitates the production of cellular energy. In every cell in your body there are small engines called mitochondria. Ninety-five percent of the total energy created within the body comes from these mitochondria, and none of it can take place without CoQ10."

Wow, that was a lot of empties! I hope you found some helpful info in this post. I love reading reviews on products that have been finished up or in some cases poured out. I feel like we can form a definite opinion on a product's performance when it's been used for a while.

If you have an empties post, please share it in the comments. I'd love to come and check it out.

One 'n Only Argan Oil - Moroccan Argan Oil Treatment for Hair #Review

I haven't used this One 'n Only Argan Oil in over a year. I have such difficult hair (curly, frizzy, and unmanageable) that I'm always trying new products in hopes of finding a miracle worker. Also, I feel like my hair gets used to products, although I've heard some stylist say this isn't possible. Anyhow, I should probably change it up more often, but I was trying to finally focus on what I was using so I could finish up some products. Beauty Junkies, you know what I'm talking about!

I had just had my hair cut and coloured and I was getting ready to go back and get another haircut because no matter what I did, I just couldn't make my hair look good. I could flat iron the heck out of it and it still looked horrible; it was dry, heavy, stiff and full of kinks, as if it didn't have a style, something was amiss. So, I thought the cut must be to blame and I needed it tweaked a bit (even though I have a very talented stylist). I was also having a lot of hair fall out every time I'd run my hands through my hair and so I placed the blame on having my hair coloured and/or my thyroid issues. Then suddenly, I had run out of the product that I was trying to finish for eons which was a higher end salon product, and I went back to using this Argan oil instead.

I began by applying a dime sized amount of the oil to wet hair and I did not use any other products. I styled my hair as usual and I couldn't believe it, it looked and felt like I had my hair done at the salon! I didn't even use a flat iron or any hot tools for that matter, just a blow dryer and round brush. My super frizzy hair came out so smooth and soft I couldn't believe it! So, my haircut wasn't the issue, it was the product I was using. Thankfully, I went back to this product before I went back and got another haircut!

I've been back to using this Argan oil for a week now and my hair feels super soft, light, and it has movement again! It looks like I DO have a style now. Also, since going back to this product, I don't have the constant hair fallout/breakage when I run my fingers through my hair, there is still some, but not as much.

Only time will tell if my hair will get used to this product and I will have to switch to something else (no lack of products to try in this house). But, for now me and my hair are happy and we're sticking with this.

Lesson learned: If my hair (especially freshly cut and coloured) looks horrible no matter what I do to it, and /or is falling out more than it should, try changing hair products!

ps. I purchased mine at Sally's Beauty Supply where the price was significantly less than the salon that initially tried to sell me on this product. I think I paid around $11

Makeup Purge and Declutter!

The other night I got the sudden urge to purge! This isn't unusual for me, but it usually happens with my wardrobe. I just love organizing and re-organizing. I think I could do it full-time! hehe  I've been like this for as long as I can remember. It's somehow so satisfying to purge and organize, which is why I guess I love it so much!  But, of course, the urge usually seems to hit me at night.

In this day of consumerism, many of us have too much! Self included. I struggle with wanting more but also wanting less. I find that when I have too much I feel overwhelmed by it. So, I donate, consign, and toss.. slowly. As you can see, I am usually not able to purge a lot at once, whether it be clothing or makeup etc. Everyone is different but this is how I have to do it. I know there is a lot more I could should get rid of but for now, baby steps for me. :)

Pictured above is what I am purging. I will share my process and why I chose to purge what I did.

Here, I had selected possible items to purge. Items that have either expired or I don't use. I had separated them here into "need to test out and do some comparisons," and "most likely going,"

I left them like this till the next morning when I would have better lighting to swatch, compare and test.  (Note: Milani Luminoso was only in the picture for doing comparison swatches, It was never on the chopping block. Although, I admit that I don't really get the hype over it,, maybe I don't have the right skin tone for it or something, but I do like it when I have a bit of a tan).

Blush & Face

Here are the blush and face products that I decided to let go of, minus the little Prestige Mineral blush pictured. (This pic was taken before I took it out of the purge pile).

2 Jordana blushes in Blushing Rose and Touch of Pink- These are awesome blushes, never mind the $2 price tag. How can something so inexpensive be so good!? I owned 5 shades. These are two shades that just don't work for me.

Boots No7 Blush in Petal- I have several other blushes that are dupes and this one is less pigmented. It's also very old and has hardened a bit.

Elf blush in Flushed- This isn't that old but it's already completely hardened.

Marcelle blush in Blossom- Such an unusual colour, like a deep mauve but It's far too dark for me.

100% Pure cream blush in Pink Grapefruit- I do like this product but it's extremely old and I never reach for it.

Revlon Smoothing Primer- This was a freebie with purchase. I never used it so I can't say if it's any good but it has gone bad (colour and scent has gone rancid).

Revlon eye quad in Siren- I never use this product. Of the two colours I would use, one is a total glitter bomb, so I don't use it and the other is a pretty silvery taupe which I depoted and put into my Z-Palette. I have many taupe's but none like this!

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Liner- This comes in the tower of 3 shades. I have never used this particular shade and never will. Bye!

Sally Girl eyeshadow in Eggplant and Olive- I have duplicate colours that are better but they are not bad.

Pixi Pretty Eye Perfection Palette- I never reach for this. I gave it a second chance but the pans are just too small and it's become super powdery.

Manual Override Brow Pencil- This came in a kit years ago from The Shopping Channel. Not sure why I even kept this, the colour is WAY too dark for me.

Marcelle Lux Metallic Liquid Eyeliner in Cobalt- This came free with my Marcelle BB cream. I never use it and I've had it since at least 2010.

A few of the glosses were expired. The others were either glitter bombs, shimmer bombs or just the wrong colour or texture for my liking. (Not pictured: Covergirl Lipstick in Creme and Essence lipgloss in Nude Kiss).

Annabelle Volume Lip Plumping Gloss- I have no idea why this is called "plumping" I didn't see or feel any plumping. I can't stand the applicator and have others I like better in the same colour.

NYC Big Bold Gloss- I can't find a colour name on the tube. This came FREE from Influenster years ago. It's very goopy and sheer but shimmery.

Palladio Herbal Lip Gloss in Baby Doll- Wow, what was I thinking!? Pretty colour but major glitter bomb! My aging/lined lips just aren't about that life!

Essence XXXL Lipgloss in Nude Candy- This has separated and gone bad.

Elf Shimmer Gloss in Festive- This has to have the most horrible texture in a lipgloss that I have ever experienced. I just can't explain it. Stay away!

Essence XXXL Lipgloss in Big Night Out- This is a really neat mauve colour that I like. But it is way too shimmery and has also separated and gone bad.

Wet n Wild Fergie Lipstick in FOMO- This is a nude that is very concealer like. It has a super white base and is a very thick lipstick. I can't recommend this to anybody. The colour Fergie Daily is a much better nude in this line.

NYC Lipstick in Matte Mauve- Mauve? This is bright pink! I gave it away. At least it was only $1.50.

Not Pictured:

Covergirl Lipstick in Creme- This is not pictured above. I was able to return it to the store for an exchange. It was very drying and showed every crack in my aging lips. No Bueno!

Essence Lipgloss in Nude Kiss- This is a great colour but beware it does have some small silver glitter to it although it is not apparent on the lips. It's probably my 3rd tube. I was unable to finish this tube before it turned bad (probably due to all my new product testing).

Second Chances

The above pictured items were rescued from the purge. Honestly, I probably wouldn't have gotten rid of Milani's Luminoso but it did cross my mind and went through the same comparisons and testing as everything else.

Prestige Lipgloss in Delicate Mauve- Totally in style right now. But, it's old for a gloss, at least 2 years. I figure since I haven't used it much and it's not separated and no change in scent, I'm good to go.

Burt's Bees Lipgloss (the colour was on the wrapper.. ugh)- Great Mauve colour and I've always loved mauve's on me. I'm just not thrilled with how little comes out with the applicator. I have to apply several swipes.

Prestige Skin Loving Mineral blush in Natural- It barely shows on my skin, but is for just those days that I want that.

Milani Luminoso- Cult Favourite but I'm not really sure why. I hear everyone say it's the perfect peachy-pink. I only see orange with sparkles, no pink. But I do like the glow from it if I have a tan.

Kirkland / Borghese Mineral Eyeshadow Palette- This palette has been so neglected. There are only a few colours I like so I considered tossing it. For now, it gets a second chance. I tried a couple of eye looks and was very happy with it. Although it's quite old, the powders are still soft and buttery.

YBF beYOUtiful Basics- I won their two palettes in this set from their facebook page this year. One palette was super dark so I gave that one away. This palette has some lighter neutrals but they are all very shimmery, so I would only use them as lid shades. I have done a few eye looks and I'm enjoying it, so it's staying!

Now, what do you do once you purge!? Buy something new of course!

Hello, Lover!

Okay, well I actually didn't have to purchase it. When I returned the Covergirl Lipstick in Creme, they let me exchange it for this! I've wanted this since it came out and my store never had this colour in stock but yesterday was my lucky day! This is Rimmel's Lasting Finish by Kate in #45, it's a great nude-y mauve colour.

Here's a summary of what I purged (for those who like numbers, like me):
  • Blushes: 6
  • Face Product: 1
  • Eye Products: 7
  • Lip Products: 10
      Total purged: 24

I hope you enjoyed this post. Whether you just breezed though it to get an idea of what I purged or you read the details on why I decided to purge them, I hope this gave you some helpful info or even just some inspiration to get rid of what's not working for you.

If you have a declutter/ purge post to share, please do, I'd love to check it out!

Flavoured Liquid Coconut Oil by Nature's Way #review via Social Nature

I was fortunate enough to get to try this flavoured liquid coconut oil free from socialnature. Social Nature is a product sampling community focusing on natural products.

I love my coconut oil and use it daily; whether I'm putting it in a smoothie or cooking or baking with it. But, in the colder months it turns solid and being kind of lazy, I find it a pain to melt it before using it in my smoothies and recipes. So, I was quite happy to hear of a liquid coconut oil that will save me from this tedious step.

So far, I am really having fun with this coconut oil. I love that it's in liquid form so I don't have to melt it before adding it to smoothies or baking recipes. I have the Raspberry flavour and so far I have been adding it to chocolate smoothies, fruit smoothies and my weekly black bean brownie recipe. I plan on using it in a salad with some spinach and strawberries too. The possibilities are endless. I love the flavour and the convenience. Now I want to try all the flavours! It's non-Gmo too!

Product Deets:

  • Premium Liquid Coconut Oil
  • Choose from 5 delicious flavours
  • Alternative to butter, margerine or vegetable oil
  • Ideal for salad dressings, sauces, dips & drizzling on popcorn
  • Made with expeller pressed, Non-GMO coconuts
  • Cold Pressed, Unbleached, Unrefined
  • Non hydrogenated, zero trans fats, hexane free, no solvents
  • Stays liquid - even when refrigerated
If you have any recipes that you think this flavoured coconut oil would work in, please comment below, I would love to experiment some more with other recipes.

I received this product free for trial purposes from socialnature, all opinion are my own.

$1 Eye Makeup Brushes: 224, 222 and 217. Mac Dupes!?

Recently, I heard about these "Mac dupe" brushes selling on eBay and I had to check them out. At $1 a piece with FREE shipping, I felt I really couldn't go wrong. Here are the four that I purchased.

From the top: #224 #224 #222 #217

The close up pictures above and below are after washing them two times and using them for two weeks,

My order:

Pictured above is a screenshot of my eBay purchase.

As I mentioned, I heard that these were dupes for Mac brushes and I was in need of some pointed crease brushes. Again, not much to lose since they are $1 per brush and FREE shipping! yay!

I can't tell you how they compare to Mac brushes since I don't own any Mac ones, but I can tell you that I am LOVING these brushes! I can honestly say that I have been using these 4 brushes on the daily since I got them, and I haven't touched any of my other eye brushes since! Yes, I'm loving them that much.

How they arrived:

They are really soft and washed well with no shedding. They also work amazingly well and blend my makeup like a dream. The handles feel like high quality IMO and each are stamped with their corresponding number. I would never guess that these are low-end brushes, let alone $1!

Insta Pic:

I ordered:
 2 x #224
1 x #222
1 x 217

I am so happy with my purchase and if I need anymore brushes I would definitely order these again or some others from this seller. Of course, only time will tell how they will hold up in the long run, but so far, so good. *Fingers crossed

Note: I've had some people on Instagram ask for a link. I will provide a link to one of the brushes from my purchase (not affiliate), but keep in mind that it may eventually expire. In that case I would recommend searching on eBay for makeup brushes with the number you are looking for eg. ``eye makeup brush 224`

eBay link: eBay makeup brush #224

I love finding great buys and bargains, so please leave a comment if you have any to share! Or, have you found any great bargains or dupes for higher end products?

All products were purchased by me and all opinions are my own.

September Empties #4: Makeup, Beauty, Skincare and Health with #Reviews

Welcome to my September empties post. I have a little bit of everything, including a little makeup graveyard in this post. Not sure what it is about finishing up products that is so satisfying. Is it only that way for us beauty product junkies!?

My last empties post was on August 9th, 2015 and you can find it by clicking here if you are interested in seeing what I finished up in August.

I didn't finish all of these in one month, some of them I've had for quite a while. They were just finished by the end of September. I did not include any finished sample products as I had collected so many that I had a Samples Testing Challenge going on for a while. If you want to see what that was all about, here is a link to my last post in that challenge.

I will try and be brief and get straight to the point on each product. ;)

  • Simple Micellar Water- I really enjoyed using this. I actually won this in blog giveaway from , which was really nice. Otherwise, I probably would never have tried it. Full review can be found HERE.
  • Earth Science Eye makeup Remover- Holy grail for me. It works and it's all natural, can't beat that! I buy this on iHerb.
  • Retin-A Micro 0.04%- I've been using this for well over a year and it's supposed to be the Mac-Daddy of anti-aging in skincare, so I'll keep using it. Luckily, it's covered by my medical plan!
  • Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Serum- I got this because it was super-cheap during Target's Liquidation sale here in Canada. I enjoyed it but can't say anything astronomical happened to my skin, especially considering what the full price is. I would only buy it if I got it super-cheap again.
  • Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep- I got this free from ChickAdvisor. I loved it. It was very soothing and anti-aging/hydrating. Heavy price tag though. But, it did last for quite a while.

  • Dove Heat Defy Protect & Shine Mist- I've had this for years! I don't even know if they make it anymore.  I used this before using my hot tools. I really can't tell if it does anything. I've already purchased the Tre Semme Keratin one as I've heard good things about it.
  • Hydrogen Peroxide- I use this for so many things, I should really do a post about it. I use it on cuts, to make DIY cleaners, Whiten teeth, clean my mouth guard...... (Money saving tip: buy it at the Dollar store, it's much cheaper and it's the same thing)
  • Adidas Cotton Tech Deodorant- This is Aluminum Free and it works for me. I love the scent too. I'm still always trying out new deodorants hoping to find something natural that works. But, when this is on sale I have to buy it. I've been using it for years!
  • Sierra Bees Mauve Lip Shimmer- I love these lip balms with a hint of colour. As I age, my lips lose pigmentation, so even in a lip balm it's nice to have a bit of colour. This brand is very hydrating and affordable so I always stock up on them. I got it in a variety 4 pack, but you can also choose a 4 pack of just one colour. I buy them on iHerb also.
  • Covergirl Clump Crusher by Lashblast- This came in a sample kit from somewhere. I got a few of them so I can't remember exactly where it came from. I think it's a good mascara but I still prefer my Jordana Best Lash Extreme. And, I'd like to try some mascaras by Essence as I hear they are good too. (Mascaras only last 3 months max. So, I'm not about dropping a lot of money on them ) ;)

  • FemMED Hormonal Balance- Recommended by my Dr. I take these on and off as they are very pricey. I try and stock up when they are on sale.
  • Now Foods, Iron 18mg- My Multi Vitamin doesn't have enough iron in it, so I supplement with 18 mg caps. I have tested low for iron and I very rarely eat meat products. I have gone back to my usual brand which is even cheaper (only $3.67- half the price of the Now Foods one!), and I like it better. I'll leave a link to it here if you are interested.
  • Healthy Origins CoQ10 100mg- This is a supplement that I will never be without! It fuels all the cells in our body. As we get older, we become depleted of it. Plus, I have a heart condition that this helps with. This is in the form of Ubiquinone. I know that everyone says that Ubiquinol is now the best form to take. But, I did my research and found out that even if you take Ubiquinol, it is changed to the Ubiquinone form in our stomachs. So, save your money and buy Ubiquinone like I do, it's much cheaper. Again, I buy it from iHerb where I find everything is much cheaper. Here is a link to it if you are interested.
  • BHI Calming Homeopathic Remedy- This is a MUST have for me. I have had sleep issues for years. I always have to have this on hand as it's the one homeopathic remedy that can send me over the edge into sleep when my body needs it. It's always on my bed side table. It's another product I get from iHerb. I've actually never seen it in stores. (yes, I'm a bit of an iHerb junkie. But everything is super cheap there and international shipping is super cheap too $3-$4!)

Makeup Graveyard:

These all went in the trash. They were all under $2 and quite old so I don't feel too bad about it, but there was no sense in keeping them around as I never wear them. I gave each lipstick one more shot and they were all way to bright on me. I just don't suit bright or dark colours and everything seems to oxidize on my lips and become even brighter!

Pictured above (left to right): Wet n Wild Fergie V.I.Pink, Jordana Matte in Pink Passion,  Elf in Classy, Wet n Wild Think Pink (why is this NEON on me!?)

Note: I can blame YouTube for ALL of these!

These were mostly purchased from the $1 store. No one else wanted them either, so off they went to the makeup graveyard.

-Elf Shadow in Happy Hour- Too powdery, have dupes
-Elf lipliner in Natural- Too orange on me
-La Colours loose eyeshadow in Radiant- Just glitter, no pigmentation
-Maybelline loose blush in Soft Mauve- Makes a mess, dupe in Sonia Kashuk blush in Pink
-Jordana nail polish in Creamy Fuchsia- Too 80's for me!
-Essence nail polish in Jacob's Protection- Impossible to get off thick glitter
-Jordana nail polish in Pink Bunny- I have a dupe, but it's staying for now ;)

If you have a September empties to share, let me know, I'd love to come and check out what you used up!

Secret Clinical Strength Invisible Solid Antiperspirant in Completely Clean: Review

Today I'm going to share my experience with Secret's Clinical Strength Invisible Solid Antiperspirant/Deodorant.

*80% sweat reduction versus the 20% sweat reduction
required by an ordinary antiperspirant

Available in:

From the Box:
  • Clinically proven to provide extra effective wetness protection
  • "Adapts & Responds" Technology to give you Customized Protection that adapts to you.
  • Goes on dry and stays dry
  • 48 HR odour protection

I received my package from BzzAgent and was excited to get started. If you haven't heard of BzzAgent, they are a great site where you can try out products for FREE, to test out and give your opinions on them, that's it! It's loads of fun too! You don't have to have a blog either.

Here is how my package arrived from BzzAgent:

Here I am before, stressing about an impending "situation" And, ready to put my the product to the test!

Here I am shortly after. Feeling relaxed and taking silly selfies for this review:

It didn't leave any marks on one of my favourite black tops, which I wore with my favourite new lipstick (Jordana Modern Matte in Blush).  And, my Malibu Lemon Blossom perfume by Pacifica is also pictured along with my new Secret Clinical Strength deodorant.

Here I made a little collection of tools I use to stay #stressfree (including the latest addition, My Secret Clinical):

The first thing I did when I got the product was put it to the sniff test. It passed with flying colours, I love the scent! I decided to put this product to the test during a stressful situation and it stood up really well. I normally only wear deodorants and if I'm stressed I sweat, but at least I don't stink! :P This definitely controlled the normal wetness factor as well as any potential stink factor. It also stood up to a light workout. I could tell because I was sweating on other parts of my body but not so much on my underarms. Maybe I should just slather this product all over my body.. OK, just kidding. I mean we do need to sweat a bit to release some toxins from our bodies. But, no one wants to walk around with wet under pits!

I think this product is fantastic to have on-hand if you have any situations where you don't want to be embarrassed by sweaty armpits. It's in a different league than my usual deodorant. I will probably continue to use my usual deodorant when I'm just chillaxin at home etc. But, for anything else, I will definitely continue to use Secret's Clinical Strength Antiperspirant. It will also save my good clothes too! I'm sick of white blouses turning yellow under the arms from perspiration! And, who needs #stresssweat anyways!?

Have you tried a product from this line?  And, please, share any tips to stay stress-free! We can all use that...

I received this product free for trial purposes from BuzzAgent

All opinions on this product are my own.

Laneige Advanced Water Science, Water Bank Gel Cream #lovingLANEIGE Review

I'm a total skincare junkie! I have been for years. So, I was really curious when I heard, after much anticipation, the Korean skincare line Laneige had finally arrived in Canada!

I was even more excited when I found out that I was fortunate enough to be able to give one of their products a test drive through influenster! If you are not familiar with Influenster, I highly recommend them if you're interested in trying out products for free! All you have to do is test the products out and give your honest opinion about your experience with the product. Influenster has much more than beauty products too, they have food and drinks, pet supplies, games, you name it, they have it.

Anyways, back to Laneige. Over 20 years of research has gone into the making of these products. They have a really nice range of products on Sephora's website and I'm pretty much drooling over all of them!

The product that I got to test out and will be reviewing here is the Water Bank Gel Cream, it can be found on I didn't get to choose a product from their line, instead, I filled out a questionnaire about my skin and they matched me to the right product for my skin type based on my answers.

Here is some info from Sephora's website on the Water Bank Gel Cream:

What it is:
A cooling, non-oily gel cream that immerses skin in moisture for 24 hours.

What it is formulated to do:
The six hydrating ionized minerals—zinc, potassium, calcium, sodium, magnesium, and manganese—in hydro ionized mineral water replenish and lock in moisture while winter cypress polysaccharide extract soothes irritated skin. Cooling and ultra-light, its silky texture makes it the perfect choice for warm climates and oily skin, absorbing instantly and delivering 24-hour essential hydration, protection, and revitalization.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
- Parabens
- Phthalates

What else you need to know:
This product is dermatologist tested and non-comedogenic. LANEIGE does not test ingredients or products on animals.

The above are features I already look for when shopping for new skincare. Now, onto my experience with the Water Bank Gel Cream!

My Review:

A peek inside

My first impression after unboxing the cream was great based on the sturdy, high quality packaging. And, it came with a little spatula to keep the product sanitary. Talk about attention to detail, I really appreciate things like that. But, it's really what's inside that counts! I had never read any reviews on this product, so I went in with a completely open mind. Excited, I began using the product the day that I received it, of course.

A quick bit about my skin type: I have combo/oily skin that is very dehydrated, aging, reactive and acne-prone. I know, quite the combo!

The product has a nice light fragrance that is very pleasant. It has a gel-lotion like consistency. It layers well with my serums and other products, and I could immediately feel a cooling sensation but more importantly, a hydrating feeling on my skin. It plumped my skin nicely and gave it a more youthful look. I found it very soothing to my dehydrated and reactive skin. I did not have any irritation or acne breakouts. The hydration definitely lasted all day. This product also performs well as a base under my makeup as it is not greasy at all, yet it's super hydrating!

After using it for a few weeks I could definitely see that my skins overall appearance was younger looking. But, the biggest testament to this product happened when I saw a friend that I hadn't seen in a few months. He accused me of "having something done." When I swore I hadn't he said I "at least had some Botox done." I told him I just started using some new skin care, I swore that was it! He didn't seem convinced but I didn't really care because I was just happy that I apparently looked that good! Or, at least that much better! I think it's often easier for other people to see changes in us than it is for us to see ourselves. I knew my skin had improved, but I didn't know to what extent until my friend accused me of "having something done." It is the first time in my life that I've been accused of that! Now, I want to try every product in the range. I mean, seriously! Like, have a Laneige bath or something. hehe

By the way, I did tell my friend that I'm not against Botox. I told him that I was just afraid to put toxins into my skin as it's obviously going to be absorbed by my body, and I don't know enough about what that might cause... but that's a whole other story.

Has anyone else tried any products from Laneige? If so, which ones have you tried and what was your experience? I think I'd like to try the serum and sleeping mask next! :D

I received this product free for trial purposes. All opinions are my own.
