June Empties: Health, Beauty, Makeup, Skincare & Nutrition!

It's already time for my June empties!

Here, I'll share what I used up (or not) if I'd repurchase. ie. mini-reviews and links where possible.

If you'd like to see last months empties, you can check it out by clicking here.

Skincare

Simple Smoothing Facial Scrub
I liked this product, it was good but not my favourite. I'm currently trying out other scrubs but I would buy this one again in a pinch.

Simple Cleansing Micellar Water
Love love love this! It was so gentle and soothing and did a great job of removing makeup and dirt from my skin. My favourite of the 2 Micellar waters that I've tried so far.

Garnier Ultra-Lift Miracle Wake-Up Cream
I think this is a good basic moisturizer for younger/ oilier skin types. My skin is oily/combo but aging and dehydrated. I prefer something more deeply hydrating.

Martina Gebhardt Black Mud Cream
In between testing out other skincare products, I've been using this cream for about 4-5 years now as my night cream over my Retin-A and serums. It's one of my favourites. It also comes in a lotion but I like the heavy cream at night. When I went through a bout of horrible adult/hormonal acne (which was also due to dehydration) this product single-handedly cured my acne problems and made my dehydrated skin plump and younger looking! I can't recommend this enough.

Hair & Body

Clairol Shimmer Lights Shampoo (Blonde & Silver hair)
I think I've been using this since high school (I won't say how long ago that was). It does a good job in toning down brassiness in my colour treated blonde hair.

Sonia Kashuk Yellow Alluriana Body Butter
This body butter was super hydrating but not greasy. I love the scent. I also have it in the spray/perfume. I do prefer the spray over the body butter in terms of scent as the body butter seemed much stronger. Although I love to try new products, I always go back to my favourite hand & body lotions by Avalon Organics!

Lip & Eyes

Elf Lash & Brow Clear Mascara
I use both sides to tame my brows. It does the job on the cheap!

Pixi Succulent Lip Twin
This was supposed to be a lip balm and cheek tint (the cheek tint side broke off). The product in the tube has separated and is super greasy. I can't seem to mix the product together, so it's going in the trash. What a waste! I can't recommend this product.

Alba Botanica Terra Tints Organic Mineral Tinted Lip Balm in Bloom
This is my favourite go-to summer lip colour. It's organic,cruelty-free, has SPF, is chemical free, and has the most beautiful MLBB (my lips but better) tint to it. I've been purchasing this every summer for years now.

Madre Bees Organic Lip Balm
This is another favourite but I use this one for around the house as it doesn't have SPF or any colour to it. It's organic, non-GMO, and cruelty-free. I have dozens of these as they come in large 8 packs on iherb.com and always go on sale. Note: they have since changed the name from Madre Bees to Sierra Bees but it's the same company and product.

Palladio Herbal Tinted Lip Balm in Cotton Candy
This is another favourite of mine. I get it at Sally's Beauty Supply and it's pricey (about $5.99 here in Canada), so I wait for a sale. It's moisturizing and gives the lips a more youthful look as it has a nice sheen to (at least in this shade) it doesn't have much colour at all as it's a very sheer baby pink.

Supplements

Zoi Research B12 5,000 mcg
I purchased this from iherb.com and I can't find this brand on their website any longer but I have linked to a similar one by Jarrow which is a great brand with great reviews. I'm not much of a meat eater so I really need to remember to supplement with B12. It really helped with my sleep, energy, mood and stress levels. I once took B12 in a 500 mcg spray but didn't notice anything. I guess I needed this higher dose. For ongoing use, I take 1/2 a tablet.

Healthy Origins 5-HTP 50mg
This is also great for sleep and mood. I don't take this one every day, just as needed (like when I really can't sleep). It's a vegetarian formula, is non-GMO, and soy free.

Nature's Answer Rhodiola Rosea 100 mg
Rhodiola is considered an adaptogen, these help the body regulate stress. I really find this helps with the stress response and it keeps me from waking at 4-5 am everyday. I find most companies sell 500 mg caps but I find that 100 mg is the right amount for me, I only take one per day. This one is standardized, gluten-free, cruelty-free, vegan, and vegetarian.

Nature's Way Vitex (Chaste Tree) 400 mg
This herb helps balance female hormones and monthly cycle. I take vitex to raise my progesterone levels. It must be taken on an ongoing basis for best results. It's non-Gmo, gluten-free, and vegetarian.

From Google: "Vitex acts on the hypothalamus and pituitary glands inside the brain by increasing luteinizing hormone (LH) production and mildly inhibiting the release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). The result is a shift in the ratio of estrogen to progesterone, in favor of progesterone.Oct 1, 2015"

Health & Nutrition

Natural Factors Whey Factors Protein Powder
I don't know why I've never thought to share this product before. This has been my go-to protein powder for as long as I can remember. It can be difficult to find a good protein powder but once I found this one I knew it was the one. It doesn't contain anything artificial, which was a big selling point for me and it tastes great!

It also has no added sugar, is low in lactose, and suitable for vegetarians. You can read more about this product here.

I hope you enjoyed seeing this month's empties!

If you decide to try any new supplements, remember to check with your Doctor before doing so.

Ps. Come on over and join the Makeup Monday Madness over at fabulous and fun life!

    1. Hi, Jackie! yes, this is the best one I've found and I've tried a ton! I found most protein powders have artificial sweeteners etc and make your drink "frothy" This one is perfect and has all the benefits of Whey like BCAA's (branch chain amino acids) :D

  4. Hi Amy! Great job on your empties this month. I love the Simple Micellar water as well. Thanks for the protein share. I've always shied away from them because of their chalky taste. I'll have to give these a try! Tal xo
